Troubleshooting - Cats not breeding
***For a basic overview of how breeding works, please see our Breeding article here: Breeding Basics
Sometimes it may seem like your cats are having trouble breeding and producing any offspring.
This could be due to any number of reasons, including stats being out of sync, range, or partnering issues, etc.
You can use the following steps to help troubleshoot the problem:
1. Do your cats have the right stats?
Your cats must meet the following stat requirements to breed:
- Must have 1 Male and 1 Female cat
- ♥♥ Love 100%
- ☻ Happiness 75% or higher
- ↯ Energy 25% or higher (cat must be awake)
- 모☁ Hunger below 25%
Make sure both cats meet the above stat requirements. Chances are good that your cats are out of sync with each other and
that is why they are not breeding! One cat might have high energy while the other cat is low, for example.
If your cats have energy that is out of sync:
- You can wake up any cat when it is over 25% energy, so you can wait till the sleeping cat is close in energy to the awake one and wake it up.
- You can use Energy vitamins to raise the energy.
- You can use Catnap or Catnap 0% on one or both cats.
For more information on how Energy Vitamins work, please see our article here: Energy Vitamins
For more information on how Catnap or Catnap 0% work, please see our article here: Catnap & Catnap 0
If your cats happiness isn't at 75% or higher:
- You can use Vita-Milk.
- You can use Happiness vitamins.
- You can cuddle the cat. Any interaction marked with an asterisk (*) will raise the cats happiness.
For more information on how Vita-Milk works, please see our article here: Vita-Milk
For more information on how Happiness Vitamins works, please see our article here: Happiness Vitamins

2. Are your cats in range of each other?
- Cats must be in range of each other's Home points if they are not partnered.
You can check if they are in range of each other by resetting their range:
- Click the cat then click Animation.
- Click Jump Home.
- Click Set Range.
- Select a range setting or enter in a custom range.
- Once you select a range a red particle ring will appear around the cats Home point to show you the size of the cats Range.
Both cats Home point must be within the other cats red particle ring in order to breed if not partnered.
Here is an example of the Correct way to set cats Range so they can breed:
As you can see, both cats Range, the red particle rings, are large enough for the other cat to be inside.
Here is an example of the Incorrect way to set cats Range so they can breed:
As you can see, both cats Range, the red particle rings, are NOT large enough for the other cat to be inside.
3. Are your cats partnered?
- Cats must be partnered if they have separate owners or are in the Online Cattery.
- Partnership only lasts 11 days. If the cats do not produce a box in the 11 days the partnership will break, even if set to Repartner!
- Partnered cats do not have to be within each others range to breed. They must be on the same sim or in the same Online Cattery.
To partner cats Inworld:
- Make sure they are nearby each other, then click on of them to get the menu and select the Breed button.
- In the Breed menu, select Set Partner. Your cat will select a nearby eligible cat to partner with, and give you a menu to confirm or choose another cat.
- Once you have selected the correct cat to partner with choose if the partnership will be One-Time or Repartner.
- If you are partnering to a cat not owned by you, then the other user must be on the sim to accept the partnership.
For more information on how partnering your cats works, please see our article here: Partnering Your Cats
To partner cats in Cattery:
- Make sure both cats are in the cattery, then hover your mouse over the area below your cats info and select Partner.
- In the Select Partner window scroll through the cats and click on a cat to select it.
- Once you have selected the correct cat to partner with confirm the partnership, and choose if you want the cats to Auto Repartner.
- The partnered cats will now appear in the Pairs section of the Cattery.
