Happiness while in the Cattery

I understand the basics of the Cattery, but I have one question. If I keep kitties exclusively in the Cattery, how do they gain happiness? Do I have to take them out now and again and give them some attention, such as cuddle or hold?

They gain at the base rate.

You can give them milk in the Cattery to increase this rate.

If you don't want to use milk, then, yes, you will need to pull them in-world to cuddle them.

Go to the main store and get a Dock. It's free.
Rez the dock.
Don't freak out about the big, scary message about taking your Lindens. Allow it. The message is supposed to be scary because griefers try to steal your money; but it's perfectly safe and only takes the money you tell it to, when you tell it to, so you can purchase supplies for the Cattery.
The dock is no-copy but you can have several.

To send a cat in to the Cattery, click on the cat.
To pull one back, click on the Dock and click on Cat->SL then chose which one(s) you want to appear on top of the Dock.
Be sure to close the web page when you're done so you don't accidentially pull in more than you intended.

The Dock is fail-safe. If any problems arise preventing the cat's appearance close the web page and check your Cattery; the cat will still be there.

I'm newish, too, and reading the manual is pretty helpful to get the basics.
