RE: Pic Posting
No sense worrying about dead links .. or YAMWA (yet another meaningless web account) .. just store the picture directly on the kittycats web site.

Add it as an attachment, preview the post, and add the link to the attachment to the message before actually posting.

RE: Pic Posting
Oh, nice tip, Tad! I use Dropbox, but, for some reason, pics stored there won't display in the body of a post here. Gonna try that next time.

RE: Pic Posting
Dropbox is cloud storage, not a web server, so it may never do that. Dunno.Never tried. Never would consider trying, in fact. Personally, the only cloud service I trust is the one I run here at the house; all others are extreme security risks and no matter how well I know the operators (some personally) I just can't take that step.

Most picture sites like Photobucket work. But, for some of them, if you carefully read the ToS, you actually are NOT allowed to link to the image and have to have viewers visit their site so they can see the advertising.

When you're doing a message:
start typing your message
click Preview Post
at the bottom, click Choose File to attach.
click Preview Post
copy the *attachment* (not the post) URL
edit your post and where you want to put in the image, click the little hill-and-sun icon and paste in your attachment's URL.
Finish up and click Preview Post to be sure everything looks how you want it then Post your finished message.

Yeah, it's a bit convoluted, but it eliminates all other storage systems and puts the image directly on the kittycats web server so you aint beholden to anyone else's rules or reliability.

I upload my pictures onto Flickr, copy the image address and then add it to the post by using the icon that shows two grey mountains and an orange sun in a square box (halfway along the menu bar.) These pictures always seem to appear on these boards with no problems.

Which is exactly my point. This process is a violation of the Flickr ToS and can get your account there terminated.

Really? I never realised that. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I shall stop using this method of showing my pictures. I'll be honest, when I sign up to a site, I simply place a tick in the terms of service - I never ever read and digest those "hundreds" of paragraphs of "Terms and Conditions" but I have revisited your reply above and I note that Flickr want people to visit their site to see the advertising. I guess it all makes sense - they want direct traffic in order to gain revenue from their advertising. I wonder if this is true for other major picture uploading service? Do they all try to stop their users linking to pictures from alternative sites around the Internet?

I wonder, although you have found a way of uploading files here, do KittyCatS mind us uploading a mass of pictures onto their servers? If it is such a convoluted way of doing this, it seems that (perhaps) it is something that they did not intend us to do - otherwise KittyCatS would have made it more simple and easier to do.

RE: Pic Posting
Direct linking to your pictures is allowed in the subscription version of ImageShack, according to their TOS.

I pay $2/month for unlimited use. They may have raised that rate, as I subscribed when it became a pay only service as a long time user.

Free storage clouds usually don't allow direct linking, although you can still do it - the chance your photo would attract enough traffic for them to notice is rather low if it isn't kitty porn. Smile

RE: Pic Posting
Under your account page you'll find your usage, the quota for attachments (currently, IIRC, unlimited) and the ability to remove old attachments if you want to reduce your overhead.
