paying to break partnerships...discuss
I find it interesting, and somewhat disturbing, that kitty cats is the only breedable on the grid that have a process for breaking partnerships.

Now, while its free to break accidental partnerships, you have to actually pay to break on that's been set for longer than 24 hours. On face value, to me, this looks like purely a money making process, because I simply cant see any good reason (and it would seem neither can any other breedable creator) that people should have to pay for it.

I know theres probably not a lot of money in this....there cant be that many partnerships that need breaking after 24 hours.... but theres a line between customer service and company service. Yes, KC is a company and out to make money....perfectly understandable....but to have these potions...making it logistically more difficult than it needs to be for the customer to break even if it IS in the free time window, seems like a bad idea.

so why not cut the logistics and workload for the customer.... why have this charge at all. Decrease database size by having a simple "partner" field.... decrease product stock logistics by not even having a seemingly unneeded break up potion (2 in fact)..... and make the partnership freely open to set and break like every other breedable.

Your thoughts on this will be quite interesting to read.... have at it!

This would certainly make the secondary market easier to navigate. I usually avoid partnering my cats for this very reason. Unfortunately, that means an occasional oopsie breeding. It would definitely make it easier on people who buy or sell live, breeding cats.

I know I have spent thousands on breaking partners up. I usually hit the repartner button but if i don't realize that the partnership was formed in 24 hours then i pay. I also usually end up paying for any live cat I want to sell. I have close to 200 cats so I don't always keep track of whos gonna be repartnered in 24 hours. I know lately I have been choosing teh one time but I usually repartner because I breed couples more than once, but I do sometimes change my mind a bit too late.I have done other breedables as well and there's no fee for breaking up. I'm not really sure why kc charges, probably just a money making scheme.

I don't see it as a money-making scheme. Rather, it seems to me to be a penalty for lax practices. If one often needs to purchase a break-up potion, instead of complaining about the cost, it would seem wiser to examine the practices which lead to the need and correct them.

There are plenty of techniques to avoid being in the position of needing to purchase a break-up potion. Chief among these is to absolutely avoid the Repartner option; but there are several others.

I submit, for those who typically use Repartner, breeding results would improve significantly if they would learn to avoid the feature.

And I would agree with that assessment.

You're starting up a breedables business, you're looking at the Meeroos model,

and you say to yourself...

" HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE MY PROFIT MARGIN"

And somebody else says...

" KITTEH DIVORCES, STYLISH HATS, AND CRYSTAL METH MILK!"

That's how you run a successful organization!

Personally, I'm just glad that the KC store offers all the free options for those times when I change my mind about what I just did, whether it's breaking a pairing, repacking a box or bringing a cat back from the menagerie. I do wish we had more time, but at least there are free solutions for my momentary lapses of reason. :-)

Cracks me up, Winter, lol. Poor guy.

I'm glad they have the free breakup after 24 hours. I would prefer 48 hours because RL can interfere but I can live with 24 hours because most times if I make a mistake, I realize it within 24 hours. It's more a question of once I realize it, if I am able to go back into SL before 24 hours or not (for some reasons I realize I made a mistake just when I am falling asleep). If I miss it, then I just wait to the baby is born and put it with the cat I realized it needed to be with.

I would prefer to get rid of the automatic repartner button. The one time I had to pay for a break free bottle was when I was a newbie and hit that button instead of the "one time" button. After that I learned and all my kittens are always 1 time partners so I can avoid getting the bottle again. I don't think my experience is uncommon for newbies.

Auto re-partnering in the Cattery is the Spawn of the Devil and should be banished to the Nether Regions, never to be seen again. In-world, it should not simply do it .. it should, at least, pop up a large, scary message advising newbies they REALLY don't want to use it.

*nods* I never use the repartner button. I HAVE spent too much on the bottles because I've done things like deciding at 2am that my 9T pair should have another kitten together instead of waiting around a couple more days to test the new collection kitties I had paired them with! But I recognize my impatience and accept full responsibility for my actions. :-)

Right now, I'm trying to learn to wait until they are close to breeding to pair them in case I change my mind.
