how much can I ask for a kitten?
hi I just started with my cattery and my first kitten is born.... a beautful cream/white boy.. Now..if I want to put him up for sale, how much can I ask then? His mum & dad are starters... and pedigree is visible for all to see..
This is all new to me, so I do not know... If it was a girl I would have kept her, but I have 2 boys already...

You need to post the kitty's stats. Also, it would help to have the parent's stats too. You can't price a cat without knowing that the traits are, or could potentially be, based on its pedigree.

RE: how much can I ask for a kitten?
You can charge whatever someone else will pay for it.

There are a number of rules-of-thumb for pricing.

Some people advocate L$100 per "trait", some only L$50. Some advocate a more cost-based system where you look at food, stall rental, etc. Some simply put a high price and lower it until it sells or they get bored and Menagerie the cat.

Personally, I've found that a flat rate of L$10 per cat sells well, but does tend to cause black and blue welts to appear randomly over my head and torso when SWMBO realizes what I did and initiates another round of her Pricing Re-education Program.

RE: how much can I ask for a kitten?

I'm sure more kitteh are sold for ten lindens than 100 per trait!

I've seen black softies listed for 15k.

I have not bought a black softie for 15k.

I would buy one for 500 L though.

You can look around the mega malls and see what everybody is

charging for whatever.

But keep in mind, they might not be selling anything at those prices.

People buy nice fur and eye combos,

but they dont want to pay two thousand lindens for anything.

Well, maybe a royal teacup or something.

Experiment!

Best of luck in your endeavors!

RE: how much can I ask for a kitten?
Technically, a "trait" is simply something which changes from cat to cat. So "Size" is a trait, in the strictest sense. Bear this in the back of your mind, because it's often the way the designers look at it.

What we players generally mean is a "breedable trait". That is, one which we can control. So, "Fur" is a "trait" because we can select and breed for specific furs, but "Size" is not because nothing we do can effect the "Size" of a cat .. it is always randomly assigned.

And, for most of us, and as I used it above, what we actually mean is a "non-generic breedable trait value". So, while "Fur" is trait, we only count furs which are not from the Genesis collection. So we don't count "Genesis - Coco" as "a trait" but we do count "American Shorthair - Red Tabby"

These details are covered in the FAQ.
