RE: New Discoveries
I have to be honest here and admit I was VERY sad when I talked to KittyCatS about being able to see my new Foxie. Best I can compare it to is being handed what you are told is an awesome birthday gift and at the same time told you can't open it yet, and you can only try to open it once a week and if you're unlucky may never open it. Now I know I have a starter that hides the new Foxie fur and a baby that "shows" it under a costume, but I gotta tell ya..some of my V-day and Xmas kitties threw their hidden furs ONCE only..no matter what I did or how many babies I opened/bred back etc. So I am filled with trepidation about this situation. I HOPE I can do well breeding them out and I have awesome breeders living all around me so plenty of help if needed but I keep thinking of Inanna ( a Xmas kitty ) that I ended up passing to Draco cuz she would not show her hidden for love or money and it took him til she was over 100 days old before she finally showed it. ( I think it was Oci Lav after all that )
It made ME feel bad when folks IM'd me asking for a pic and I couldn't share one. I even asked KittyCatS if the costume could be removed and they said not with the special offspring kitties. So I am stuck. Now I like the special offspring, it's neat..it's a nice little extra for buying collection cats. But I LOVE new furs and traits as well. And I do think to be lucky enough to get something new then not be able to see what you got is a bit sadistic.
I got the Foxie from my Til Death Do Us Part pair..I opted to separate them this week and am breeding wtih nicely traited lynx's and hoping for the best. At this point though, I feel it should be up to the discoverer if a pic is posted to web or sent out in notices or not. If I have to wait to see my own kitty..then I want to choose when, where and how to share the "discovery of the LOOK" if and when it happens, unless someone else "discovers the look" in the meantime, then they can decide.
I think though that being given special offspring when certain starters are bred together, then not being able to see new traits right away if found feels kinda like punishment. My usual method with starters is to 1) breed with another starter 2) breed with recessive fur/eye 3) breed with moderate fur/eye if step 2 gave me squat..lather, rinse, repeat as needed. So this kindof interferes with that plan since I would have to exclude certain pairings if I don't want to risk new traits under costume again.
Maybe a good workaround for this would be to have the pedigree image not be in costume. That way..we could peek under and relax..or give option to revert the cat to non-costume via ticket. I don't see how those options could hurt and really don't grasp the motivation behind the whole double discovery thing.
Another option that may take a bit of work but would be optimal for your customers I think is to have the costume considered a kind of clothing and allow it to be removed AND replaced via the menu. That way, whoever had the cat would take their pick of the look they wanted.
As it is now, it really sucks the joy outta finding something new.

Wow that's weird to be honest I would think it is up to you to decide wether you want that paint job or not.
Very curious and I'm sorry to hear that!
Makes me think we better not make a special baby until we found out what the new starter hides.
I think KC shouldn't forget some people just like to breed kitties and want to see new furs and some are more the collector type and everything in between.
It seems they didn't serve the breeder here I can understand how you feel I would feel the same.
And if you wanted to bring your new fur for auction for example people can't even see what new fur they buy, very curious this!
Edit I believe I heard, Liriel & Deerylou saying if we breed those kitties with other kitties apart from the specials they are still capable of making a special baby if both i.e. mummies didn't birth their paint job kitty yet.
And if they say this it is likely true
I haven't heard this confirmed by KC though and it wasn't very obvious information otherwise we might have handed our starters differently.
So if we really like such special we still can have it after the normal breeding strategy.
Which if that is true is a nice way to go I think because should we sell such special birth and it hides something cool and new without us knowing, because it is hidden behind a genesis fur, we might sell more than we know.

RE: New Discoveries
I understand your frustration, but You have the fur visible now (under the costume), I think that should be easier to pass, but of course you would have to wait 2 weeks .
Good luck with pulling the fur!

When the discoverer shares the picture or displays the cat somewhere that's when people know about it and share the picture or post it, otherwise no one would have a picture to share , so the discoverer already chooses to share or not.

* Nenya Eun nods.
What Liri & Deer said was right, it has even been sent via notice into the KCA group.
"Just to clarify If you breed 2 mummies together they will have a special baby the first time they breed together, after that normal babies will be born. If you breed one mummy with a non halloween kittycats or another halloween kittycats which is not a mummy you will get a normal kitten. That mummy will still have the possibility to have a special baby when you breed him/her to another mummy cat that didnt have a special baby yet.
Hope that helps

RE: New Discoveries
I wish that whenever a new trait is discovered, KC would send out a group notice, post in the forum under News, and update "Our Cats" section with a pic of the trait discovered! If some people prefer to be surprised, then they could just avoid looking at the section with pics.
Please, Santa?? I promise I've been extra good this year!
I put down my book, The Meaning of Zen, & see the cat smiling into her fur
as she delicately combs it with her rough pink tongue.
Cat, I would lend you this book to study but it appears you have already read it.
She looks up & gives me her full gaze.
Don't be ridiculous, she purrs, I wrote it.

RE: New Discoveries
Oh I bet that is exactly how it feels Noc and I can understand maybe not removing the pain job because that could become a full time job in itself but if they had at least offered a photo I think that would alleviate some of feelings of this "Best I can compare it to is being handed what you are told is an awesome birthday gift and at the same time told you can't open it yet, and you can only try to open it once a week and if you're unlucky may never open it."
How do you know you will even like it once you have worked to FINALLY breed it out?

I agree it might be too much extra work to remove the paintjob.
But it shouldn't be a to much of a heavy load to show a picture.

RE: New Discoveries
So, I might just be crazy but this is my theory. I remember when the Baroque kitties came out and the discovery of the Bengal Tawny was made and the "official" picture was released in a KC group notice. However, then the Foxie was discovered by Deery but no "official" picture was released for a while yet. Once the official photo of the foxie was eventually released it is also sporting the new (at the time) ody burst eyes. I think this is why sometimes they are quick to release a picture and sometimes they are not, because they take certain pictures with multiple new traits in them that may or may not have all been found. Maybe the blonde foxie's "official" photo sports one of the new eyes we haven't been able to see under costumes or one we just have discovered yet? This is the only reason I think holding back the pictures of new things would make any sort of sense.
Noc, I can only IMAGINE how immensely frustrating that must be. But hopefully soon you'll have a nice little dressed down foxie! I'm sure all our wishing and hoping for you to have one so we can see what it looks like doesn't hurt either
