I am so glad you mentioned this Liriel. I have had the privilege of selling some very amazing cats from a new breeder just 3 weeks now into KittyCatS. I, and many others, work hard to bring a huge selection and make sure that we are encouraging NEW breeders to attend and bring their cats to auction. With classes provided at several sims, the mentorship program provided at one sim, I think the well established and experienced Auctioneers, (and yes I am talking about more than just my sim) are doing a great job with that. Thanks for mentioning that Liriel because I and many others do an excellent job of respecting and giving attention to new breeders!

This is good point but maybe a new approach to doing this would be to offer new breeder friendly auctions and ones for more experienced breeders, as well as ones for high end cats, and other themes like that. IDK...sort of like an auction theme a day? As I dont see the number of daily auctions decreasing anytime soon, this would be a great way to inject some newness and take away the "daily routine feeling" from auctions? Just a thought...

Only thing is wouldn't that make a new breeder feel as a noob instead of encouragement to keep up with the high end breeders and to learn from them etc.?
I like the themes idea though.

This has actually been brought up before. The only thing I worry about then is that an auction of just "current high end kitties" might work against us. What I mean is if it "appears" that these are so readily available, might they not then drive the prices down on those cats too? And then what of the New Breeder auctions. Would long time breeders attend and buy those cats as many now with monetary restraints from recessions and all are buying particular things which fit into their programs? I don't know. What do you all think? I am not against considering this, but I would like to make sure its something we dont rush into but consider all benefits and drawbacks first before making it happen.

Would love to have other auctioneers opinions on this, and other long term breeders, as well as you that are new.

There is nothing to stop the older breeders going and showing support. No I think it does the opposite. It introduces them into the community and gets them seen on their own level instead of trying to compete with cats that will over shadow their own normally. It would give them a safe and encouraging environment that they can feel proud instead of ashamed at perhaps not having the "best". I think its a perfect way if done correctly.

EDIT: As Chelle mentions above, chances are, the established breeders will not be a newer breeders' target customer, and probably will not buy, but like any business... not everyone always will be anyway. I cant see that even in a "normal" auction they would be more likely to sell. Someone either wants the cat or they dont. I would envisage these particular auctions, to be not just be about selling, but also about learning with the auctioneer providing more of a "teach & sell" approach. Kinda of like a class/auction in one.

Regarding high end kitties, perhaps minimum start bids could be enforced? ....by that, I mean high minimum start bids

I agree with Sanura it did really hurt lots of the breeders. And it hurt the market on the Balineses. KittyCats please dont put all the new furs more recessiv then the most recessiv fur. It did not work well for the community.. :/

I see everyone's point but most of us her have been to an auction where you have a large number of panels. is it so hard to just set up your panels based off of # of traits and level of breeder and type of fur. where you can get a mix of a little bit of each. I am sorry but I think this will help encurage the people who get a new fur to put some traits on it. Think of it this way, you have 15 panels to fill, you set 3 regular panels and 1 special panel for 1-3 trait kitties, then you set 6 and 1 special panel for 4-7 trait kitties and then the rest are 8 and 9 trait kitties. This gives a good mix for everyone it should pull in everyone to the venue. this will make people trait kitties and move forward. I don't know exactly how it would work but this is just another idea to get everyone at the same auction and to look and get people talking even with just the 1-3 trait kittie or the 4-7 trait kitties. I was looking at that range to see how to added these to my current line. It does help it can teach and teach something other than Oh look at this fur.. no it is Look at this persons hard work to make this 8T kitty.
