The hidden gender for cats in boxes was introduced and concidered as part of the breeding "challenge", similar to that you don't know the second traits of a cat when you buy it.
You will only know the cats gender when you take it out of the box and examin it, like how it would be in Real Life

I think here though the challenge for breeders is juggling prims, a lot of us are to a point now where we don't have the prim to open many box's to find the right sex at home, in our catteries or in our shops. I also believe that knowing the sex of kitty's before you buy a box would help all of our sells. I can have a box sitting in my store for weeks on ends but as soon as I open the same box I can sell that kitty with in a week in my store and for the most part I can sell it for more then what the box was set for sale as. I truly believe this is due to people then knows the sex they are getting cause they can take the kitty home and match it with there own kitties. Once again this boils down to prim we can have 13 box's out or just 1 13 prim kitty.
Also in Real Life you can always do ultra sounds
