The people selling them spent a whole lot of money buying the same as everyone else and sorting through their random results to offer their prize rolls to the connoisseur who would rather spend a large chunk on purchasing the prized mega instead of buying a whole lot of boxes and hoping to get lucky.
You get what you pay for. Buying from the KittyCats! vendors, if you buy one box, you get one random chance at a a traited LE and/or special sizes. If you buy 1,000 boxes, you get 1,000 chances. If you get a really nice one you can offer it for whatever price you please. It's your cat.
I have seen other breedables go for 250,000 lindens. If someone has the money and wants a product, it will sell.
