RE: Galaxy Moon Eyes - Any Info?
Nice job on the kitten, Aramis. You said you were willing to birth the kitten to prove the the hid so looking forward to the results.

It may seem like double work to prove hids but it's necessary. Or you have to prove the purity of the parents which can take going back generations. Which would mean sending in all the charts proving the purity along with this chart in order to document the proof. It is much simpler and cleaner to pop the hid on the baby against a more recessive eye like any eye more recessive than Violet. The simple truth is hids can pass for generations. If you pop the baby's hid, you only have to send in the chart of the popped hid. That's why everyone is saying pop the hid. It's different than auction proofs -- a much more stringent criteria for dominance testing because so many people depend on the accuracy.

For example to use this proof for Ody Kaleidescope without popping the hid, you would have to send in charts to Saga to establish the purity of Grandmom Branch who now belongs to Joy and was bred by "someone else". The easiest way to prove purity is to find where Odyssey Kaleidescope got introduced into the line, hopefully from a starter. Second easiest way is if it was popped in by parent/child breeding with the parent hiding ody kaledescpe and showing more dominant and the child hiding ody kaledescope and showing more dominant -- then any child is automatically pure. How far back do you have to take the charts to get that proof?

Here is a Moss/Onyx proof. First the Moss was proven pure. (from Cee's breding on the Moss thread)
Chart 1 of 2

Proves Belden starter has Moss eyes hid and Baby "Pure Moss" has Moss eyes shown and hid
first right side for Kermit the dad pedigree
Kermit's Mom Belden starter has Gen Aqua shown
Dad Bob has Strawberry Bell shown
Kermit has Strawberry Bell shown, hid will be from Mom

Kermit is placed against his Mom Belden
Mom Belden starter has Gen Aqua shown
Kermit has Strawberry Bell shown
Baby has Moss eyes, Moss is both Mom Belden and Kermit's hid so Baby is pure Moss , shown and hid

Chart 2 of 2

Mom Ardella shows Onyx eyes
Dad Pure Moss eyes shows and hides Moss eyes as proven in previous chart
Baby shows Onyx eyes
Moss has to be recessive to Onyx because Moss has to be hid as Dad has Moss shown and hid

Both charts had to be sent in to Saga for the proof since 1 chart established purity and the 2nd chart was the dominance proof. If Cee had popped the Onyx baby and placed it against a more recessive eye and shown it had Moss eyes, then only one chart would need to be sent in. Purity does not matter when you pop hids.

So you can see why in dominance testing people ask to see the hid on the baby -- so much easier. Your chart is a 1-chart proof for Galaxy Moon is recessive to Strawberry Bellini because the hid was popped. However, to prove for odyssey kaledescope, it can be a many-chart proof depending on what it takes to prove Grandmom Branch and Grandpop Lush DP purity. In Dominance Testing, purity cannot be accepted by statement ("this line is pure"), it must be shown by charts when it became pure and down the line to the mom or dad and that can take a lot of charts especially if someone has been breeding the same line for awhile.

Sorry if my explanation seems too long but there might be newbie and middling dominance testers out there wondering why people always say pop the hid.
