Many of us are on limited RL budgets
which in turn affect what we can do in SL.
I myself am faced with the very real possibility
that most of my fave babies will be in my inventory until who knows when
]

In this case it is more lucrative to the factory to sell permapet drugs,

as a cat in inventory is no longer in the food chain.

Cat food, being the major lifeblood of the operation

is compromised by permapetting,

so the pricing model of the permapet drug,

is based upon balancing the loss factor of the kibble sales.

Right now it takes quite a while to balance food cost savings

from a permapetted cat.

So the drug is making its kibble equivalent profits up front.

But slash that price in half, and that timeframe is reduced drastically.

Still, a cat in inventory is not a profitable cat.

So a temporary sale can indeed be a moneymaker.

Good Luck to you! I tried to get a deal too when I was setting up my Kittycats museum.... But no goHuh

I hope you have more luck. I still have lots too that I need to permanent so I too have my fingers crossed for you!

I love to come look at your wonderful catsWink
I was told to come here and add my two cents. I understand that Kittycats is a business and wants to make money. I feel a sale on perma pets is also good for business. You would get a LOT of people buying them during the sale, and people will feel they have been heard and not just brushed aside. This would definitely add to customer satisfaction. This thread is old but was 6 pages long before I just added my thoughts. Obviously this is something customers really want. And it's not like everyone is going to buy up bunch of permas then never get another cat. I would buy as many as I could afford and still have a cattery full of breeding cats. Plus, I'd be able to open more cats once i had some perma'd.
Breeding or having permapets are two total different things indeed.
We are addicted to the puzzle and those who don't may very well never be and love to settle for a few Permapets or a bit of both.
With SL 2 around the corner I feel the value of collectibles in general or "lifetime" pets is drastically less.
I used to invest in collectibles as the interest was interesting.
How long the LL business for SL 1 will excist I wouldn't speculate my good money on.
I do not invest in collectibles anymore how cute they might be.

The question is how valuable is a "lifetime" sculpted pet: not so much I think everything is mesh and I think SL 2 will know no sculpties at all.

So let people have their sculpted pets, with eventually a sculpted hat and glasses, for a reduced price I'd say.

A nice Christmas thought Smile

EDIT I do not belief a short time sale for Permapet is fair for those who can't participate for what ever reason.
I'd say a permanent lower price is better so nobody will miss out on it..
My understanding is that sculpties can be turned into mesh via Collada files. The problem has more to do with birthing of the kitties with a variety of mesh parts. (Tad will correct this I'm sure or give more details.) The scripting of the cats in SL2 will likely have to be redone from scratch but has the potential to be much better.

I have full faith that the cats can be importable into SL2. Especially if they are permapet. Permapet should be a first class ticket into SL2. If it isn't, then you're right. People shouldn't buy any collectibles or permapet potions. At all.
Myself, I bought a nice Ice Baby Diamond Doll the other day. KittyCatS is a business. They will have to update or die.

The argument could be made that given the supply of kitties on the grid and the pain that causes the markets, that ONLY permapets should walk to the new land, and all other breeding start there from scratch (new starters, but containing all the traits we know and love). That would cause rampant howling, and not without cause, since we did pay to breed our boxes, but might be for the best. Turning in old boxes for (New) Menagerie Tigers would be probably a good thing overall.

As for sale vs. permanent price reduction. Well we have gone through that topic before. I think At Least a Sale would be very nice. But I was also the one pointing out that a permanent price reduction will drop the overall price of perma'd live cats. Would that make much difference? Especially if Permas get the first class tickets to the new land? Well maybe. It's a timely and very interesting question.
I sure hope you are right Ivy! :-)
Thanks for keeping this thread un-forgotten, and for bringing up the new considerations about taking our kitties, collectibles, and permapets into SL2.
We customers are still interested in seeing some kind of sale, or bulk discount, or price reduction, or ... something .. on Permapet Drink.
Maybe now, 2 years later, the fact that lower-cost permapet potion might reduce the selling-value of permapetted collectibles is less an issue, since most kitties on the secondary market cost a lot less nowadays than they did in 2012 when this thread was started.
Actually, I think to deal with the topic with reasonable clarity we need to back up a bit and examine the product we are talking about and what we were promised and what we can expect of it. (Plus my Christmas pudding is sitting so I have a bit of time though I should be wrapping things.)

KittyCatS Manual Wrote:Perma-Pet turns your KittyCatS into non-eating, non-breeding pet. Your cat will retain all other features, animations and ability to wear collars.

This is the official statement of what Perma-Pet is. It is a product that makes the cat non-eating. That's it. It is priced, I believe, at about 2 years worth of food costs. Assumptions about making the cat Permanent are Strongly Implied by the name of the product, but there is nothing more than implication there. So having said that, KittyCatS would be well within their rights legally to not import a darned cat over to any future grid (there are likely to be more than one grid). Morally, and from a financial standpoint of business continuity (and not pissing off all the customers) and perhaps because they May WANT to, they should do more than the legal minimum.

Taken at the minimum product expectations, if SL2 is going into Beta in, let's say, 6 months?, we're looking at the exodus starting in, maybe a year? Lots of unknowns and wiggle room and so-forths here. So if you're buying a permapet potion today with the expectation of 2 years of food costs, well, you are probably likely to get your money's worth. But as time goes on, the cost of permapet potion should go down, not because of giving back something to customers and being nice, but because the product WILL NOT BE WORTH THE ADVERTISED PURPOSE.
(Yes, I know the Lindens say they have no plans to shut down SL1, but that's because they're still building SL2. For them it's all about a smooth transition, which is what we should be aiming for as well. Yes they will run the 2 grids in tandem until it no longer makes sense for them to do so. That decision will not be made based on charity.)

Now there are other arguments to be put forward, and there are moral implications. And of course, now is not the time and place for magical language, like we sometimes hear about Menagerie (your cats live FOREVER in a land of sunshine and rainbows). And I would love to hear from some people who have purchased the mega mega collectibles at auctions. Now many of those were charity auctions and expectations may vary - which is why I'd love to hear from some of those people. I mean, I know that people buy fine wines at $1000 a bottle and then drink the wine, so it's not like paying a sum of money guarantees an expectation of Have Forever.
With computers and computer platforms as well - buying a computer today does not obligate the company to supply new updated computers to buyers. We are expected to upgrade at our own cost.

Right now SL2 is in alpha. I don't expect KittyCatS HQ to know much about what's going on and what to do. But when it goes to Beta, I think we need more information. And there should be clarity. Extreme clarity, about what products do, and if they are going to put out new products, differentiating products to move things to new grids and what kind of conversions will be offered free of charge (whether that is a Linden grid, a Facebook grid, or a Google grid - really there's a going to be a ton of money to be made if they will step up to make it.)

I said in the previous post that being a Perma-Pet should be a first class ticket to the new grid and I still believe that - they are selling the notion of "perma" and honestly most of these cats haven't been alive that long. But of course, things will change.
I think you are right, Ivy, I think KittyCatS! is completely entitled to offer us, as a matter of speaking, a complete different cat and, as with an old computer, not maintaining any more service on the current cats .
After all we already had our pleassure in SL 1 from their product wether it was via breeding or via their Permapet options.
This product is designed for SL 1 also and since LL wants a clean start we may assume things are to change drastically.
I can even imagine from a designers point view a clean start with the kitties is far more attractive than bypassing old things basically what LL has choosen to do as well.

I sure hope you are right though and that they maintain their product as is on SL 2 but again I am a little more cautious with spending on cats in general apart from investments which give my hobby feel in the now more value.
I hadn't actually thought about KittyCats in SL2 as I wrote my post but some very good points have been brought up about that. No one knows how much longer SL1 is going to last. I know this next sentence may cause a certain amount of howling and gnashing of teeth but....I think if/when KittyCats moves to SL2 it would be a nice chance for a whole new start for KittyCats. Though I really can't see how they could make them even more adorable than they are now.

In the meantime, I'm one of THOSE people. You know the ones. Those who can't stand the thought of the menagerie. To me it is too much like people who get rl kittens then toss them out because they grew up and became cats. It really does bother me to the point that it feels like I'd be killing off my kitties to get a bonus (such as a tiger cat). I mean no disrespect to those who use the menagerie. It's just something i can't do.

Which is what brought me here in the first place. I want to perma my kitties after they are done breeding. I don't want to throw them away once they are no longer considered 'useful'. I want to perma pet them. Even if Perma is only until sl 1 ends. I don't care if it's a sale or if it's a permanent thing. I simply want to keep my babies and the current cost is prohibitive.
