Actually, I think it was MY brain. I thought they were trying to say that one was the parents and one the OS. Now I realize they were looking at the costume traits vs. the real shown traits under the costumes.
And, yes, it's the info on the pedigree page that shows their real traits, Feather. The costume does not pass.
Breeding:
For each possible trait (fur, eye color, etc.), each cat has both a shown and a hidden trait... two slots. Those are the only traits they can give the OS. Each parent passes one of these, so there are 4 possible combinations:
Mom's shown & Dad's shown
Mom's hidden & Dad's shown
Mom's shown & Dad's hidden
Mom's hidden & Dad's hidden
So the OS gets two traits - one from each parent. The more dominant of these becomes the shown trait and the more recessive becomes the hidden trait for the OS. There are charts where you can find the dominance:

I prefer this one for the traits other than fur & eyes:

A collection cat like this is basically a starter, with Genesis traits showing (0T). A strategy to help you find what it is hiding is to partner them with a cat who has fairly recessive shown traits. Then you can analyze the OS to see where each trait came from. Doing this will also help you trait up their offspring more quickly.
