cattery boxes vs pedigree looking at individual cats
I like the way under boxes in the cattery section when I click on a cat, it opens a new tab to show the pedigree of the individual cat

However, when I am looking at a list in the pedigree section, if I click on a cat instead of creating a new tab to look at the individual cat's pedigree, it moves directly to that page which means I lose my list (if I have it narrowed by eye or something). I can't even do a workaround of a right-click list as it doesn't show "open link on new tab" as an option.

It is a real pain in the behind to lose my "narrowed down" list every time I look at an individual cat. You have no idea. So if there is a way to open an individual pedigree on a new tab so I can keep the whole pedigree page with my narrowed-down list, it would be extremely helpful.

Use the middle mouse button.

Of course, this means you need to be on a Windows box with a 3-button mouse.

The reason right-click does not offer Open in A New Window or a new Tab is that it's NOT a link (A-tag). Instead, it's an onClick event for a row (TR-tag) in a table. Fixing it means re-designing the page so do away with table-hell; which would be A Good Thing(SM) but means it loses support for IE 5 on Windows-98. Don't ask me why the site is designed for a (so-called) browser which can't display the pages, anyway; but it is. *sigh*

I love that you know the intricacies of things, Tad and can explain why things are the way they are. I will try the middle mouse button (I never use that button so it'll be a new thing for me. Will let you know how it goes.)

Thanks, Kayla & Tad. I'd LOVE it to open a new page/tab, as I have the exact same issue. I'm on a laptop with a touchpad, and never use a mouse so I don't have a middle button. I'm using Chrome on Windows 8.1, and have it setup to put new tabs in a new window each time because I prefer it that way.

Yep.

*SOME* (not many) laptops will simulate a middle-click if you 'chord' the left and right buttons .. that is, press both at the same time. Some support this by having the chord event fire off a script on which simulates a middle-button click .. you might find the script with a Google search.

*SOME* (like my HP laptop) will simulate a middle-click if you 'chord' a three-finger tap on the touchpad area.

*SOME* (one .. Synoptics) touch-pad drivers allow you to set up areas of your touchpad to simulate things like middle-click (or open browser, or open email, or etc.).

*SOME* (very few) will simulate the 'wheel' event when you slide up and down the left edge of the touch pad and simulate a wheel-click (middle button click) when you slide down the right side.

*SOME* (apple OS???) use a key-press-and-left-click to simulate a middle-click.

My preferred solution is to run to Walmart and get a wireless keyboard and mouse. That way I am using the same full-size keyboard and mouse-with-wheel on all my systems .. just move the little USB dongle from system to system as needed. Costs about 20USD and solve all sorts of operator-error issues for me. It's WWAAYY better than the bad old days when I had six monitors and six keyboards on the workbench, or decided that was a mess and used a six-way monitor and keyboard switch to get back a LOT of workspace. It's SOOO nice use a REAL keyboard and mouse and Remove Desktop access any of my systems from my Surface RT (yeah! the worthless piece of junk can actually do real work! What does RT mean, anyway .. 'Retro-Technology'?) even when I'm outside in my rocker enjoying the sunrise with my morning coffee.

RE: cattery boxes vs pedigree looking at individual cats
I actually have a mouse along with a keyboard and monitor, set up on a table --- and completely buried under stuff that I need to work on. :-)

Because of my health, it's hard to sit at a desk for very long. I usually use my laptop in bed or on my futon, and don't have an easily available hard surface to slide a mouse around on... maybe a trackball, though.

Oh, and it's an MSI Apache with a Synaptics TouchPad V7.5

... and I found it as an option under "Tap Zones" in the advanced settings. Smile

And, I love the idea of you sitting outside, sipping coffee.
But even with a matte screen, I tend to get too much glare! Smile

Thanks, Tad!

Pressing the middle button works great, Tad. Thanks a lot.
