I just got direct IMs from some guy that I have never talked to asking me to come look at his kitties for sale. I told him to post in the groups and on the forum. He replied that he has a million times and no one responds. (I just checked and while he is registered here, he has never posted.) I finally just blocked him.

FYI - This was while I was relaxing in the privacy of my own home - not out at an event or secondary market. I would have given him more help about where/how to sell them if he asked here or in a group, but not just cold calling me like that. I mean, REALLY?

Whether he is trying to hit on me (it happens a lot) or really trying to sell some cats, IMing me directly when I don't know you is not the way to do it!

sorry that happened to you...I've had a few people do that too and I tell them "sorry I am not buying" and block them if they persist.

I have had a Female AV do the same and few times. There are a few that do that. I have even had another Female AV send me a note card that i did not know. Totally didn't know send me a note card. I just ignore them or block them. I do be nice and say no Thank You or even thanks. I have even had people just send me a TP 1st!!!! and then ask why i didn't come. Some ask right away and twice they waited 20 to 30 minutes and then asked why I didn't come. It has happen alot over the past two years. I have tried to even ask if they were an Alt of someone I know. Some say nothing and disappear. A couple have said yes and when i ask who? no answer. [blocked]
If breeders or even non-breeders have Alts or tel me they have alts they all get passwords. if they don't' know the right password i'm not talking to them and they not getting me to go any where. They will get blocked It happens a lot. The Funny ones are when you are at the Main KC shop with buying kibble of at the Advert Calendar or checking out the collection kitties and they tell you they have kitties for sale. hahahahhaha I keep picturing someone in a tench coat going "Pissst...... Over here....!" and opening the trench coat with kitty boxes for sale hahaahahhahahha Too Funny!
Just block and ignore them. if it someone you know they will totally let you know "Hey why you block me?" It was me" hahahaha

LOL... and is now having visions of a shady guy with cats inside his trench coat (don't ask what else he is/isn't wearing!) or in the trunk of his car!

I got spammed the same way this morning too. I'd bet it was the same guy going down lists in a group. I was also just home on my property. I don't understand the thinking of why somebody would think this is a good idea.

Happened to me twice yesterday.. twice.. two different avatars, same exact message. I don't remember where I was, but neither avatar was in the same region I was.

I have had that a couple times also, seems they hit groups and IM online avatars. Its unfortunate that this particular spam method has found its way into our community. My block list is full of spambots that repeatedly spam my IMs with LM's. One storowner has half a dozen they cycle through, I think I got them all since it hasn't happened for a while, that or LL finally got sick of me filing an abuse report everytime it happened and did something...laughs...most likely the former though.

Me too! This guy's username ended in "666"... yet another thing that doesn't exactly recommend him to me.

Exactly. I was at home, cuddling my cats, but I could have just as easily been.... mmm... intimately involved. It's much more likely that I'd just be cuddling with my girl, but still!

*nods* I would be interested to know which groups they are getting our info from, and if they are using the forums for that as well. At least it's a more complicated process to do it from here.

Yes. There's a fundamental disconnect. Buy his cats? He doesn't even say anything about his cats.
It's not like cats are rare. We all have cats. We have to have a *reason* to buy someone's cats. They have to be appealing or distinctive in some way. But he wasn't even advertising oh I have this fur, this eye. It was just, come look at my cats.
