Heart Perma petting
I always wanted to ask, why is it the kitties don't just automatically perma pet once they reach 120 days? Perma petting is expensive and and many breeders in general likely spend a mint on food and milk alone, so why not make perma petting something that happens maybe at least for the "special kitties" happen automatically once they hit 120 days or make it atleast an option for people who'd like to perma pet them but can't afford 1800L or 1500L when they have a cattery full of breeders to feed?Angel[/i]

RE: Perma petting
As some one who has spend 100s of RL dollars on permapetting cats to keep I would have to say this would be on the TOP of my list as a new feature.

RE: Perma petting
It's been a long time since I did the math but IIRC it took several months worth of feeding at non-breeding level to equal the cost of perma-petting. This was before they lowered the price for elders. But it seems to me, it still costs more to perma-pet than it does to go from box to elder.

I look at it this way: it costs, on average, a two weeks of food (two parents, one week) to obtain a license to produce a NEW copy of the digital asset, yet it costs many, many times that much to convert a license for an existing copy from a recurring expense to a fixed expense, even when the portion of the license for that existing copy allowing the creation copies has reached its time limit and expired.

Sure, this is legal. But it's counter-intuitive.

Basically, it's saying "Thank you for paying to purchase or create the copy you have, and thank you for paying to create new copies from it, but there is an additional fee if you want to actually keep that copy now that you no longer can create additional copies from. We would much prefer you to delete that older copy and will give you a trivial store credit if you do so."

Wow that's an interesting way to look at it! Very insightful.

I'd love auto permapetting, even if it was something like 200 days (without being sick) or even a year.

I WANT TO KEEP ALL THE KITTIES!

RE: Perma petting
If you buy 20-packs of food, you get a bit of discount, getting the price per food bowl down to 150L. A cat eating pet-food eats HALF such a bowl per month, which means it eats for 75L/month. (80L/month with no 20-pack-discount, but I count with the prices I figure most pay here)

A perma-pet potion costs 1800L... So, 75 to 1800 gives 24 months...

So - Your cat can eat pet food for exactly TWO YEARS before it pays off to buy a perma-pet potion.

Then the math becomes slightly better when the cat turns 120 days (4 months) old - because then you can buy a cheaper perma-pet potion. 1200L, I believe it is? Ok, so once you fed your cat for 4 months, it only costs another 16 months worth of pet food to perma-pet it. This is still a grand total cost of 1 year & 8 months worth of feeding for a pet-cat.

So yeah, I simply feed my pet cats pet food... ;-) If I end up keeping them for more than 1 year and 8 months, KittyCatS earn a wee bit of extra on that deal - but that's ok by me. I must admit my favorite cats change over time. The cat I loved the VERY most a year ago is not the same that is my favorite today - and I just can not keep ALL of them.

RE: Perma petting
Oh, good, I'm happy to see my math way back when was good and we're still ahead of the game simply feeding last year's Valentine's Day cat who's just over a year old now, and we have almost 13 months before we start to lose money by failing to perma-pet him.

Oh, and I see there's a sorta silly poll at the top of the thread now. Smile Of COURSE it's 100% in favor. DUH.

RE: Perma petting
Remember, the KittyCats that are permapetted still receive updates, they receive new features as well. You can still put a vest or hat on a permapet from a year ago. This cannot be said about most other breedable permapet solutions. If the breedable has a permapet solution at all.
This is the same reason a few other breedables have a pay service for the permapets.

If you are a breeder permapetting may seem rather redundant, however those like me who collect collection kitties permapetting is a means to an end and much cheaper in the long run then feeding over 50 animals.

While it would be nice for it to be free, you also have to realize that once you permapet the cats kittycats no longer makes any money from you. But, they still provide support ect.

EDIT: I was also the first to make a permapet topic on this forum (you can probably search for it). I was very much against the cost for a long while, but I started to see the reason behind it.

RE: Perma petting
Um .. to be clear .. I think you mean "feeding 50 animals, all starting out over 120 days old, for over a year."

I can see where you're coming from but it seems a stretch. But, what the heck. How about a middle ground? At 120 days add a button to perma-pet the cat. If you use that button, after some warnings and gyrations to avoid accidental activation, it's features freeze: you can't add, change, or remove anything about it and it won't update in the future. All you get is lost-cat replacement support. If you don't like that, then, sure, go pay for the kit at the store. Betcha very few collectors would pay so much just to ensure they get all the updates (most of which have to do with breeding, so they won't effect them anyway) and can change hats or whatever. But hey, why not?

Scratch that .. dumb way to do it .. instead make it free and automatic and freeze the cat. THEN, if you want updates, pay for them individually. OR, if you want automatic updates, pay for the life-time update license by buying it instead of the current, discounted perma-pet kit. Much cleaner, and far easier to implement.
