RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
Figured I would dust the cobwebs off this thread. I'm still plugging along with my starters which = bald spots, shakes, and waving a creepy stick around like a mad woman. Dodgy
But figured I would talk about breeding and breeding lines. I even thought about opening a thread for ppl to brag and cry in, since we all do that in chats. lol Feel free to take the idea and run with it. Smile This thread is enough for me. lol

Ok breeding and breeding lines.

I like to do what I call smooshing kitties. It's when I take two kitties that I know or have a good idea what the outcome is going to be. It's good for if you want to have certain traits to set aside for later, to help with a breeding plan, or even to make money.
Or you have left overs after partnering and smoosh them together.

We all have what I call project kitties. All the kitties along the way that we use to pull, (yes the evil pull word) or pass traits to make our final dream kitty.

One that I like to do from time to time, is the mad scientist breeding. I take two of my fave kitties that come from two totally different lines, but hide and show totally different and really sweet traits. Make siblings and keep breeding them together. The outcomes can be totally different and nice. And a good learning experience. Angel

What a wonderful idea. I put this into play about a week ago and started a blog around my cattery.

I love your smooshing kitties and will have to remember it. I do the same. My so called project kitties are usually something awful like my cream dream. Which is to have ody dream on bali cream maybe with ody kali as a hidden.

I also have the ones I call the backburner kitties. Where my kitty has like a one night thing with the backbreeding couch to limit myself with possible hidden traits.

Then I have the Stash Kitties where I use Genesis Kitties to hide my beloved traits. Of course I have to have a couple of each, just in case.

"You're just jealous because the kitties only talk to me."

I try to keep stash kitties and end up getting rid of them, because I know I will never open and use them. But that is a good idea, since traits come and go.

And backburner kitties are great, but I've ended up with a few that I kept till they aged out. lol Some kitties are just full of surprises, or you get attached and they do so well.

RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
Hey, I'm very very new to the whole Kittycats thing, Just brought a few and there not ready to breed just yet but I am gathering as much info as I possibly can before they are old enough.

My first question is: when the mother gives birth does it come as a kitten or in a box?
I only ask this due to alot of people selling boxed kittens which you have to be birthed.

my second question is: If I do start selling them what is a fair price to sell them at?.

Well that's all the questions I can think of at the minute.......

I hope my questions aren't too silly.

Thanks in advance

Hi, and Welcome to the crazy Kittycats community! I hope you have as much fun with kitties as I do. The answer to your first question is easy: they come as a box. In case you aren't aware yet, when you touch the box, you will get a blue menu that gives you lots of options. Click on "image" and watch your box turn into a pic of your kitty that will tell you its sex as well. The answer to your second question is a bit more difficult. What is considered a fair price for a kitty will depend on the traits it has and the whims of the kitty market. I suggest you spend some time looking around the various kitty marketplaces to see who is selling what and how much they are asking. That should give you a good starting point of reference. Hope that helps! :-)

It does come in a box, you may birth it or keep it boxed as long as you want to birth later.

Well there is no certain price to sell at, my advice is to look around markets and see how people price their cats and to watch what traits they highlight in advertising and if that makes the cat worth much. Also go to auctions, watch and see what people sell and buy at and what traits are more desired.

Market changes all the time, and what was worth too much few weeks ago worth much less now and maybe the opposite, so you need to look around to watch the changes and stay up to date.

CheekySara Welcome to our crazy world of KittyCats, another good thing since you have so many questions is to get involved in the mentor program where you are matched up with someone experienced in breeding. Plus many areas do offer group discussions as well - I find these a great learning experience!

Good luck!

Skippy
