If there is a legitimate reason for this time period being necessary then, by all means, keep it. Otherwise, let those babies pop out of the box and start gaining love. If you like to play with your kittens for two weeks without them breeding, then simply turn their breed off, or don't partner them. Their love levels have no impact on how they can operate as a pet for you. I'm thinking maybe, however, this is some how tied to the fact that you have to let pet food recovery span be two weeks as well. This could remain the same, imho. But, afterall, these are just our hopes and wishes right? Tongue

Pet food recovery is only one week long Daki, and if you're suggesting it should be extended to 2 weeks but it could remain the same IYHO, then I don't understand what you're saying I'm afraid. If what you mean is, assuming they start gaining love at 0 d/o, one would set breed off for a week and then would have to wait another week for them to begin to start gaining love, well I'd say it's a personal choice. Some people don't breed them till 120 days old. Some people don't use milk or cuddles on purpose so they gain love more slowly. Some catteries don't have an even number of male and female kitties and some have to miss a cycle by force.

And to me, letting kitties grow up without gaining love from day 0 or 1 adds to the realism of "the game". When they're born they're teeeny little kittens -call me old fashioned or whatever, but I don't like my 0 day old baby start to gain love as a newly born. Maybe it has to do with the fact that kitties are pets for me as well as breeders. (and I know teacups and toys remain "kitten sized" but they're not newly borns when they start gaining love)

RE: Asking, pleading for kittys to gain love from day one.
I have another suggestion, what if they become adults after 5 days then they gain love in the usual 7/10 days? that saves only 2 days I know but still a little faster and not too bad for the market. Also it is not a very big change so may be more accepted by the company and breeders.

The total would be 15 days without Milk or Cuddling, 12 with them and 10 days if you add vitamins to that. Not too slow in my opinion and also not too fast.

Could be 4 days instead of 5 or even 3 but not less I think.

Its much easier to pair kittens back to parents if it takes only 7 days (one breeding cycle) to reach breeding age than to wait approx 14 days (2 breeding cycles). Cutting back breeding lifespan to accommodate the extra week would be a good compromise. It will not change how many kittens a cat breeds, just let them breed their first time sooner.

Its funny because this topic has been bought up before and alot of people then agreed it would be a great idea when Saga mentioned this. How people change their minds....just saying Tongue

The point of the extra seven days is so that you CAN'T just make it simple and easy to breed back to the parent. Everyone trying to make a case for the change to be made is only suggesting it because it would make things easier. It's already easy, why does it need to be easier?

Heck, in the current state of KittyCatS, you don't even have to try anymore to discover hidden traits, because the most recessive furs/eyes/ears/whiskers/etc can be found on cats probably just sitting at the love shack because their owner has 100 of the same thing. Making things easier is unnecessary.

I'm tired of people asking for changes just so things are easier, and breeding takes less time. This isn't the land of everyone deserves to have everything instantly. Earn your cats. Everyone else plays the waiting game, so can you.

And just FYI, not everyone agrees every time saga says something Wink

RE: Asking, pleading for kittys to gain love from day one.
I think Sara makes a good point about more boxes flooding the market. This could be an unhappy consequence of earlier breeding.

When I say two weeks Bea I mean one week without gaining love plus the week (or more) it takes to reach 100% love.

These are just suggests, not demands, if you don't agree I don't think it's fair to insinuate that people suggesting simpler things are somehow lesser breeders or don't want to try as hard. I don't have the money to go and buy the newest or most recessive traits. If one day I do have super recessive traits it's either because of very LONG and FRUSTRATING starter breeding, good luck with hiddens, or because of the generosity of friends and breeding partners. Just my very small two cents there Tongue One week or two weeks, I'm still going to keep breeding KittyCatS either way, and if they haven't changed it at this point I doubt they will but we can always dream about pimping out our tiny new born kittens like the heathens that we are! XD

Thanks for clearing that up , Daki. Smile

Now, I'd like to make things clear about your next paragraph as well, please. I talked about kittens being kittens (they even have a different sleep pattern from adult KC kitties), and looking at them from a cat as pet perspective and not only a cat as breeder perspective.

I never insinuated anything else (I hardly ever insinuate at all in posts). You may not be addressing me at all in that paragraph, but I want it to be explicitly clear, at least from my part (not asking you to confirm or deny it), that I didn't suggest or insinuate any of that.

Well, let me not insinuate; I was talking about the cranky ratings troll, Ethereal muhahaha But, let me say that it is easy to misread the tone of things, and I think Ethereal was only expressing her frustration at people wanting easy and instant gratification in a general manner. However, when one is sick and sleepy and frustrated with her stubborn kitties it is easy to take a little offense at the suggestion that wanting things to be more convenient is, necessarily, wanting things to be handed to you.
