It's probably in my head, (not a proven fact) but to me it seems like they make boxes faster when they're happier. It might just be that it's a nice way to pass the time, cuddling a cute kitty, and makes it seem faster.

And yes Kay and Sax, it's time to wave those voodoo dolls and sticks at my kitties! They've been extra stubborn lately. Undecided

That Voodoo stick you passed me is just so cool, thank you Smile
I think we need to design a ritual dance + song to go with it.
My cats didn't listen well either :-|

RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
I've made a breeding schedule worksheet, since I aim toward certain furs so I can keep track of my pure lines and more dominant ones to 'breed in'. So I don't end up breeding out recessive furs I don't want and keeping the ones I do.

This is definitely not a good idea I did it with quite a few more, of course on kitten day it all makes up for it to see all the new boxes!

Sad RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
I will mention something we all notice and probably many said it in the forum but I saw this mistake again today and thought it may be good to mention it here.

Don't claim to have a pure trait -say the fur- just because both parents have it, when the pedigree shows clearly that there are grandparents showing more recessive furs or even dominant (as they may hide a more recessive one).
The chance of the kitty hiding the other more recessive fur/s is double the chance of being pure, so why to ignore the bigger chance?!

and a Tip in general, write what you are sure of only on your kitty text or say "may" or any other words with same meaning.
It really builds a bad reputation to claim wrong things. Personally when I notice it more than once from a breeder I avoid checking his/her cats at all.
You would lose future sales when you are thinking you are getting better sales for your kitty, besides it is dishonesty if you provide wrong info IF intentionally.

Yes I agree with you Sara.
While ofcourse this can be a new breeder mistake as well.
I once saw a kitty which was claimed to hide two rare furs Big Grin Confused
I think even the best voodoo stick can't help for that to be true lol

RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
I agree also as I'm always in search of pure Siamese furs. I know the closest I can come to a 'pure' fur is to hopefully find one that is hiding it to pull out with one that is hiding the same fur. However I still do not advertise them as being "pure" as I've been surprised to many times with something that was hiding for generations. As a matter of fact it's happened on my white russian line, now all of a sudden I have 9T Snowshoe Bluepoints that could be called "pure" as they came from full siblings (kittycest is wonderful sometimes) that are russians through and through for about 3 generations.

I think the only 'pure' fur at this time would be the most recessive (which do we even know that it's been found yet Wink )

RE: Fun with Breeding "Advice", "Tips", Tricks and Superstitions :)
I have some pure snows, siam flames and black russians and I know this because I never mixed them with a recessive but kept them breeding together as they were and I own them from before the recessive hype kicked in lol
I'm glad I didn't mix these lines eventhough I had more breeders due to that as I kept them alive because gender before birth wasn't an option given yet.
In general I noticed on the market a tendency of "weak" genes meaning the dominant furs hide very recessive.

That's what I hope to do with the bengal tawny fur I have. Once I found out which one hid the tawny I just birthed boxes on siblings that hide it and will do a permanent partnership between them. I'll keep going until I can breed out that particular fur, since they are the first starters I've had that has hidden a new fur.

Good idea actually.
I feel there is a huge need for strong genes lately and this will be more valuable than ever Smile

Wow Serena that's such a surprise after 3 generations, and some advertise it as pure from first generation *sighs*.
Great idea to have the Bengal Tawny pure! especially if you will send me one as a gift Tongue.

aww Nice Kay that you kept some pure and LOL @ the 2 furs hidden and yes the vodoo stick can't help in that Big Grin.
