If you're going to keep your cats in inventory, and only pull them out for special events, it can save a LOT of money to NOT Perma-Pet them.

The cost of one kit is something like two or three years of continuous feeding.

If you're only going to have them on display for a month, pull them out a week early and feed them until healthy, then put them back in inventory for next year. You're feeding only 5 weeks, so that two-to-three year cost turns into 20-to-30 years.

I also want to point out that storing cats in your Avatar's inventory is error-prone: you can easily lose, or even delete them, especially if you have a huge inventory.

It's MUCH safer to store them in the Cattery, where it is impossible to lose them.

The problem with the Cattery is, when it comes to food and milk, it's all-or-nothing. To get around this, many players store cats which should eat in their main avatar's Cattery, where they purchase food and/or milk; and pass their non-eating cats to an Alt and store them in that Cattery, where they never purchase food and milk.
