I agree with what Kay said about new traits hiding rec. It seems to me that ppl are out for just a quick buck, and not taking the time to sell a quality trait. Many don't understand the idea either. One friend told me that was how she was told to breed. Use the rec to move the new dom trait. And I have noticed some try to hide the rec trait farther back and not open the pedigree all the way up, maybe to hide it? I know some use alts to breed so you can't see far enough back to see what is really going on. I think this hurts the market and the auctions too. Seems unless it's a very rec trait, you just don't know what you're paying for anymore.

One reason I don't like auctions, are the ones that seem to bid a kitty up. A kitty will sit on a panel with no one bidding on it. Sometimes I bid because I feel bad for the person, a no sale is kinda of embarrassing and a disappointment for some. So if I had the lindens I would bid. I've had this happen at a few auctions I had been to. All of a sudden someone else outbids me, then another outbids them, then silence as they wait for me to bid again. The kitty on the panel is a kitty I could get for half the price in a shop so I'm not jumping on it. I just thought, ooooook enjoy your kitty and left.

I think another turn off for putting a kitty in auction is when the auctioneer tells you that your kitty is not good enough to sell. On the one hand they may be right. But on the other hand it can insulting, and breeds insecurity. They're trying to make sure you have a kitty that will sell for a number of reasons. They don't want you to be disappointed, and they don't want panels full of kitties that we can buy in shops cheaper. But I think it's kind of a turn off to be told what kitty you can put up for sale, and what price to start. So now a lot of ppl are afraid to put kitties in because they are afraid they're not good enough. I also want to add that I had a kitty that was *deemed unworthy but that another one was good enough. The one deemed worthy was a no sale, but someone I was chatting with bought the other kitty that wasn't worthy. No offense, but auctioneers don't always know what is best. That person thought I was new, because I was never a big auction goer.

Another reason ppl may not be putting kitties on panels that they bought or won. (and I had done this before) They get a panel before their kitties have made boxes, hoping the get a good one to put in, because getting a panel can be very competitive. But as we all know, kitties don't like to cooperate. lol So now you have a panel and no kitty that will be *deemed worthy of an auction.

Another turn off for me, is seeing a starting bid waaaaaaaaaaaay higher than it's actually worth. Or higher than anyone would pay. If the kitty is priced more reasonable, and it's a good one, and ppl have the lindens to bid, they will fight for it. If you end up with less than you think the kitty is worth, then you at least made some kibble money. To me, my kitties are worth billions of lindens. Doesn't mean anyone is going to pay that for them. rofl A well bred new trait is worth a lot of money, don't get me wrong. That is the one time I do believe a kitty should have a high starting price.

Another thing I see as a problem. Too many auctions. Yes we are all on different time zones and schedules, but do we really need an auction every second of the day? There aren't enough special one of a kind kitties to go in every auction. And not enough lindens in enough pockets to buy at all of them. With all the advertising for all the auctions there are, I just stopped paying attention. I used to try and keep up with them to see what was out there and prices. Now it's just, oh look another auction, *click and close ad, leave group, close page. I don't hear about the special auctions for charity and so forth until after they happened, because we're so flooded with auction notices that I turned them all off and don't get them anymore.

Auctions used to be a fun one of a kind event. People would clear their schedules if they could, so they could go to them. Now they're a dime a dozen. I'm not downplaying the work some of the auctioneers put into them at all. I love the way the one auctioneer, (apologies for forgetting name) takes the time to make gorgeous pictures of the kitties she's selling. They actually make me want to buy the kitties. (if only I had the lindens lol) She seems genuinely friendly and extremely professional. I'm sure many are. But with so many, I just can't keep track. Like the secondary market, there is just too much competition, and I think I'm not the only one burnt out on them.
