RE: Some thoughts
Hello everyone :-)
I have been debating wether to reply to this particular post or not for a while. From the moment it was posted, it really had no substantial aid or input to what the KittyCatS! forum is about. This forum, I believe, has been created for the community to share ideas, get to know one another and come together as what we are, people who love and breed KittyCatS! With that being said, the original post on this thread does not contribute towards the betterment of the community in general.
While I understand Samsmlth's concern about releases of new traits and the secondary market, I honestly believe that KittyCatS! is a breedable that was meant to be enjoyed and also a continuous challenging game in which the goal is to create or try to achieve your dream kitty while having some fun at it. Not all traits available are for everyone, each of us have personal tastes, and each kitty that we breed is a personal work of art that strives to achieve our very own special KittyCatS! -- tailored to our own taste. I do not think that the release of traits or furs should be an issue if we look at it this way.
I believe that, as in everything, secondary markets have ups and downs -- high seasons and low seasons. We see it in real life, we see it here and in everything else that has anything to do with sales. Clothing stores, furniture stores, other breedables, etc go through the same high and low tides. This summer has been slow for many of us as it has been so in the past as well. Many people stop breeding, take a little break, go off on vacation with family, while others stick around and continue to breed until the market rises up again.
The community has grown and we are all much better breeders than the day we started, we are seeing amazing kitties being bred every single day. I also believe the secondary market is determined by the buyer, not the seller. Sometimes we might want to sell high, but the buyer just isn't there or in that price range. We cannot fault KittyCatS! or anyone for this situation. We cannot fault breeders who make amazingly and beautifully traited kitties that sell for higher prices because, it is not their fault either that they have bred such a wonderful kitty that everyone wants to have. I believe, wholeheartedly, that yes, we shouldn't get upset with the secondary markets going up and down, and that each of us should always strive to value our work in a reasonable way. Perhaps, if we do so, market sales and prices would hold their position in a stable manner.
In regards to auctions, I must say that auctions usually start at lower valued kitties in order to entice the potential buyers into bidding on the kitty. Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not. My personal recommendation has always been, price your kitty at an auction at the lowest you are willing to let go of your kitty (something I can proudly say I learned at the Nacht's auctions - Thank you Draco and Theo!) because if you go too low or too high, your kitty might end up going back home with you. An auction is a gamble. If we mark a kitty low (for an auction) with the best intentions to attract bids and, the kitty ends up selling at opening price, it is just something that sometimes happen. Perhaps the buyer for that kitty was not there, or no one was willing to bid more than opening bid. No one can control this. I guess what I am trying to say is that no one really knows what could happen during an auction and the auction selling price should never be taken as a "market value" because sometimes a kitty might sell way under value, or sell for a lot more than expected simply because two or more people wanted to really, really have the cat.
I always tell customers to hold on and ride the low tide slowly and not lose hope because that market will once again pick up. :-) And, regardless of new traits or furs, if you have a beautifully traited and aesthetically pleasing kitty, it will always sell -- sooner or later.
As for the second part of the original post in which The ScratchN Post and the Co.Op is being addressed, by now you know I am sure, who the person is referring to. I have no idea who this person is, or why this post had to even bring up where people live or who they rent from. As in any rental, this is a contract between landlord and renter. No one gets any benefits or favoritism, as has been alleged, over renting land. And yes, I pay for my land just like all of you who own land do. I believe that this is really something that is not relevant to the community, nor is the disclosure of my Second Life address in a forum. I get no special treatment, I can assure you.
I must say that I do not appreciate people dropping in my land to take pictures and placing them in their profiles or just coming over to verify if the post is true or not. I think this defeats the principle of what we all know as privacy. If anyone would like to know anything, I am more than welcome to answer your IM's because I have nothing to hide. I do not think, the KittyCatS! forum is the place to bring this up because, really, who cares where I live! ;-) lol
It is very easy to make an avatar and set out to plant seeds of doubts while hiding your true identity. Anyone can do that. I am here, I say present and I welcome any questions anyone might have to be directed to me and not on this forum. It is simply not the place for it.
And finally, about the KittyCatS Co.Op, I have to say is that it has been made with the highest hopes to lend a hand to one another without any ulterior motives or gain. We would like to see a better community, starting from the secondary market leaders all the way down to the new breeder that probably unpacked his/her first KittyCatS! while I was writing this post. Perhaps it will work, perhaps it won't. But we will not know unless we give it the benefit of the doubt and a fair chance. The community has always wanted a united community, then why not strive for that? If we all put our little grain of salt, perhaps this dream could be a reality.
Instead of attacking one another, why not work together? The KittyCatS! community is a big family. Like it or not, we are bound together by what we love: our Kittycats. Regardless of our own personal points of views, as different as they might be, lets make an effort to meet halfway. Sometimes we take and sometimes we need to give. No one is right or wrong and by meeting in the middle perhaps we can achieve a happy ground in which to co-exist.
I apologize to all of you who have been following this thread or any misconceptions this thread may have arisen. I am open to questions, outside this forum, if you have any concerns or doubts. I just think that this forum is not the right place for certain things.
I wish everyone a happy day and happy breeding! :-)
Always,
Ruby
