This is an old, worn-out bug in Second Life.

Have some THING rez your cat in-world. The Dock, a Box, the Cat (changing prim mode) .. it doesn't matter.

What matters is that the new copy of the cat is TOTALLY new. Second Life has no idea you THINK it's the same cat. It isn't. It just LOOKS like it, to you.

So this new thing has never been in your inventory. And THAT is the important point .. it has NEVER been in your inventory.

And here's the bug. Second Life has always (and looks like it always will) failed to initialize the "I Came From Here in Inventory" property for that new object your think of as your cat.

Attach it. No, don't take it to inventory first (that sets the missing value to "I Came From Your Object Folder"). Use the Cuddle script.

Attaching in this way does NOT create a new instance of that object you think is your cat. Instead, Second Life MOVES the object from "I am attached to this sim" to "I am attached to this Avatar". And, still, that missing value is missing.

Now you want to use Detach instead of Drop.

Well "Detach" means "Move this object from 'Attached to this Avatar' to THE PLACE IT CAME FROM in this Avatar's inventory'.

Do you see the problem? That missing value .. "the place it came from in this avatar's inventory" was never set!

What's Second Life to do? It has to put it somewhere; but it can't. So it shoves it into some nether region and punts.

Sometime, maybe in a year or two, someone at Linden Labs will decide to run a database integrity check. And WHOA! look at that! There's a BAZZION lost KittyCatS looking for "where they came from in this player's inventory." 'Easy to fix,' thinks the Linden, 'shove it into the avatar's Objects folder.' And, there you go, a cat you've not seen for YEARS mysteriously appears in your Objects folder, sick (it hasn't eaten in years) and, if your rez it, it's a 'Duplicate, Delete me' .. but there it is. Problem fixed. Way back when, you said to "Detach" and it's finally done so!
