Technically, what you're asking is possible. And there is no need to have the owner give their avatar's height if you don't mind the size adjusting differently if you're sitting, standing, crouching, etc. The script can obtain the size of the avatar's current bounding box, and can resize the attachment to some proportion of that size, possibly even choosing the proportion based upon the attachment point.
Life could be very interesting. Consider a kitty which sizes to 10% of the avatar's height when attached to the shoulder. You're walking around with a cat about the size of your head sitting on your shoulder. Imagine the shock on your friend's faces when you drop it on the ground in front of them, it happens to be one of those monster specials .. and it grows to it's normal 10-meter size! WHOMP! "Where did THAT come from?" ... "Run!!! It's that Attack of the 10 Meter Kitty!"
