Well pull together your notes on what the symptoms were, especially about the slowed updater and the tests you and KC performed and file it. It will probably go to the bottom of the pile and nothing will ever come of it.

The only other thing I can think of, if you've not tried it yet, is to save your outfit, put on Ruth or some other outfit to eliminate any attachment issues, and test using the official viewer at a place where you have just cat boxes and the updater. It seems remotely possible that the high-speed updater and the cats being owned by you are being added to something you have on your land or person which is rezzing enough that when they all add together your objects coming and going cross the grey-goo limit.
