First Linden reply, as expected, is less than useful. They tell me what I already know, and to file a bug report with them. Of course since this is account related, they will not be able to replicate it.
KC showed that the error still occurred when KC (who is the original developer of all KC scripts, and hence can modify my boxes) tried to update my boxes with me still as the owner, KC also got the grey goo fence errors at the KC test site. Once I transferred my boxes to KC as the new owner, taking me out of the picture, the updater worked normally with no grey goo fence errors. I wonder how many months (years) it will take for Linden Lab to figure this out.

Sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced! It looks like the item is hitting the rez limits put in place to mitigate griefing objects. The vendor may be able to correct this behavior.
