If a cat says it is Version 1.56, then it did not show the grey goo fence error. It's not clear why some cats lost their KC server connection after the update. But re rezzing them or changing 3D/2D modes, or sending to the cattery will all get the connection back, assuming you can still get the menu. The grey goo fence error on a live cat usually breaks it (no menu) and requires you to send a ticket to support, so they can send you a good copy.
