What I don't understand is why the word 'Genesis' makes it 'not a trait'.

Sure, back in the day, five years ago, 'Genesis - Flame' was a starter fur. But it's NOT a starter fur any more. Five years ago, it was one of the five most-dominant furs. But it has not been so, for YEARS, now! There's over a DOZEN fur values which are MORE dominant.

Yet, still, it's not counted. And why? Simply because it's a 'Genesis' fur!

But it's a RETIRED fur. It's no longer available in Starters. And, as a former starter, it's been avoided for so long, liable for immediate Menagerie, that, I wonder, how many actually even have 'Genesis - Flame'?

Having one, and breeding it, now, takes a level of dedication I'm sure few have.

It must be galling, to those few who have 'Genesis - Flame', which is only one step more dominant than the nearly equally-scarce 'American Shorthair - Red Tabby', to have THEIR 'perfect line' NOT counted, when those who have managed to hold on to 'Red Tabby' DO count.

Now that we have new Starter genesis furs and eyes, it's the perfect time to start re-evaluating these older gen traits. I've quietly picked up some older gen furs. I haven't started re-breeding them, but it's a nice project for down the road a bit. I know that there are other experienced breeders who are working them quietly. There was a charity auction last year in which a Complete Set of Gen1 furs in both males and females was auctioned and that had some buzz around it. It was such an astounding collection and certainly the auctioneer highlighted the furs and didn't talk about the cats being 8T or whatever. So there is some shifting of the ground out there. But it's quiet.

I had a gen 1 box with no whiskers -- sad to say I updated the box for some unknown reason and now it has whiskers. I kinda liked it having no whiskers because it was unusual. Looks mournfully at my one gen 1 box. (what I'd like to know is how a gen 1 box ended up in my inventory in the first place - that is the mystery)

I have always counted Genesis furs more than a year old as a trait in my pricing. And all of them have sold.

You know, we should just call it: start a thread - though this forum doesn't have polls activated - and get people to sign on to considering all the retired Gen furs to be "traited" since the new Gen furs are out. We should contact Rene Marseille and get him to fix it that way in his pedigree device, and likewise with any of the other trait counting devices.

And the same should go for the old genesis eyes.

Edited to add: I've written to Rene to ask that all gen furs 1 through 4 be considered "traits". The gen 5s are still quite new and of course the new eyes have barely made an appearance yet.
