New Cattery Chatter group
We have a new group; it’s called Cattery Chatter, and I want to explain why it is of particular interest to auctioneers and really anyone who buys cats through auction or is thinking of doing so.
We created this group especially so that there would be a place where people could talk freely about events - like auctions - and pricing and the the ins and outs of breeding and the secondary market. There is a large thread about this in the General Discussion section of this forum, but here I want to make the case for how we would promote auctions.
Methods: Cattery Chatter is a chat group. It is ONLY a chat group. We do not have notices (you know people turn notices off because of spam right?) And we do not allow a copy/paste dump of notecard adverts into the chat. So how do we promote auctions? By coming into the chat and talking, like people. You can come into the chat and say, “Hey I have this auction at this time, and I know that so far we’ve got a cat like such and such and some other goodies.” And when it’s time for the auction, you can say - or someone can say for you, since I know auctioneers can be harried right before an auction - “Hey people the auction is starting in 5 minutes, here’s the slurl.” Like that.
Honestly, we wouldn’t want auctioneers to do more than two announcements per auction because it can become spam, but there’s a lot more that we want to have happen in the group. We want this to be a space that fosters an auction-going culture in SL. Auctions are mysterious and intimidating to people who do not go to them. So we want people to talk about auctions and other KittyCatS related events in the group. Talk about the cat that you saw. Talk about the pricing of the traits. We want to be a place where new breeders can get detailed breeding advice including what traits are currently going for and whether their cat could be sold at auction. We want to help boost attendance by having experienced breeders hold the hands of newer breeders and when an auction is announced, say “hey come on, come see this, you don’t have to bid, just come watch.”
But we cannot function without group members. There must be a critical mass of people for any chat group to function. If there’s nobody to chat with the chat simply won’t happen. So I am asking you to join. And I am asking you to talk. I hope that we can be a friendly relaxed set of people, hanging out and chatting about what comes naturally - kittycats.
