I am reminded of long, long ago.

Long before there was a Second Life.

Before there was a World Wide Web, even.

In the earliest days of the Internet,
when 300 Baud was the norm, and 1200 Baud was blindingly fast;
before computer graphics were invented;
long before the IBM Personal Computer appeared;
when it was all done on paper, using Teletype machines;
there were multi-player text-based games which would eventually evolve into places like Second Life and World of Warcraft.

In those days, 99.999% of all Internet users were college students, using free accounts, sitting in rooms full of those clunky old Teletype machines.

And, every Summer, when those students would go home and lose access to those Teletype machines and their free accounts, those games became deadly quiet.

So, now we have mostly home users, all of whom have a Mac or PC (with more memory and computing power in that one box than in the entire world, back then), with amazing graphics capabilities, and 1,000,000,000 Baud Internet connections, and STILL, every summer, the online worlds go dead.

Some things never change.

Shocked RE: Summer...
I think every product goes through a life cycle - and I think companies are wise to revisit their offerings periodically and adjust it to what the current market requires.

I also think that KittyCats listen to what their customers have to say - comparing the Valentines release of 2015 versus the Valentines release of 2013 -- it is a different offering - with different variety - to cater for changing market conditions.

And yes the way KittyCats are bred have definately undergone some changes since I started breeding them in July 2013.

We are part of a global community - and the slowdown of summer months -- well, as pointed out, the southern hemisphere is heading for winter - - and thus an opportunity to attract a whole new following.

I think this is a valuable topic for discussion - thank you for introducing it Fabio.

RE: Summer...
I think the way that KittyCatS! does it now, is best. Knowing that a collection will definitely have new trait(s) or not, would not only take away the fun of breeding to see if they do or not, but it would also result in a loss of revenue for KittyCatS!'s business. Most people that buy the new collection cats are breeders. These breeders introduce the cats to their catteries to breed out new traits. If the breeders know that "collection A" doesn't have the possibility of new traits, then they will not buy them unless they collect the costume cats.

Also sometimes KittyCatS! surprises us and does fun summer collectibles - like the RFL cats or the soccer ones! I think we should stop trying to rush the new cats, and just enjoy the cats that are currently on the grid. Now is honestly the time to work on new trait combinations. I know of several breeders that use the summer time to work on their 'fall' traited cats - you know, the cats with passion eyes, tapestry harvest, and vampire ears!

RE: Summer...
We're all out in the real world having a blast while the weather is good. Time to enjoy, switch off the computer, get out! Come back when the weather starts to get crappy and enjoy once again our virtual reality and take part in breedables, etc. I think it is a normal and natural ebb and flow.

RE: Summer...
I think it comes down to SL being US based timezone wise and season wise. I think people in other timezones and different seasons miss out on a lot in SL not just KCs. In my summer in Australia it is the "boom" time for KCs when I would rather be out in the sunshine. When I am asleep the best auctions are on. It seems that the percentage of KC breeders must be predominantly US timezone/season. I have learnt to accept it and just enjoy my breeding. If SL was Australian based it would work in my favourSmile

Nah! It gets too hot here.. we just rush from air conditioning to air conditioning, except that I'm now too disabled to rush anywhere! I prefer getting out in the Spring & Fall... and they are NEVER long enough.

Actually, I like to get them for their costumes, but then I'm finding that I'd often rather leave that kind of breeding to the big breeders, and get them when they are older.

A lot of it is UK/Europe-based and finding times that aren't too late there too. There isn't a lot to do by the time it gets to be late in the evening in California, and if I were still working, even on the East Coast, I'd miss many of the events I enjoy due to work. If they had more things at, as an example: 11pm San Francisco time (the same as SLT), that would be 4pm the next day in Melbourne (or 6pm Melbourne time in our winter and your summer).
