Hello- I took a look at the Wiki and noticed that you recreated the Grid Wide Auction schedule in a table. I manage the Grid Wide Auction schedule through Google and would really appreciate if you just use a link to it. It changes almost on a daily basis. I get IM's and NoteCards from Auctioneers and such all the time asking me to update the Google Doc we have had going for over a year.

I noticed that there was a few auctions left out today on the list. Like I said it changes all the time. I find that most of the kitty cat auction community trust Me and Kitty Kottage to keep track of the list and if we have to many places for them to turn in information then things will get lost or missed.

Those are my two cents.

That's cool and all, but two problems. First, you didn't even link your list, so I can't link to something even if I wanted to. Secondly, I have no idea who runs it, as I know the Nachts also keep a list of auctions. So apparently some people trust them to run a list, and others trust you.

This very reason is why I think it would be better to have a list on the wiki rather than on some google doc. Then it doesn't matter who runs it, it can get updated on the fly, and people know exactly where to go to get the information.

I went to kittykottage because I was told there was a list, and I spent about 3 minutes looking around the auction area and didn't see much. That would be the second reason. Why would I want to go to a sim in world to get a schedule for something, when I could look it up on a website. What if I don't have access to second life at the time?

You can request I link to your page, or you can help me make sure the information is correct. That would be even better! Community effort!

Final note, if the auction schedule changes every day, how reliable can that really be?

I would also like to add, or rather suggest, that if you do keep a doc, and it's the one i was linked, and you intend on using that. You should seriously consider updating it so that it can be understood by a new person to kittycats. I have no idea who Lady Bri is, or Neck, or some other abbreviated names. How am I to contact someone, once I actually DID manage to find your list, if I had a question about their auction? I pose those questions to you, feel free to help keep the auction info updated on the wiki if you'd like to help everyone out.

Hi Bruna!

I'm not sure why you quoted my post as it has nothing to do with your auction schedule but demonstrates that as I'm managing the history google doc, I can also add to the wiki my knowledge from maintaining this document. I also said that particular aspects run by the community should stay in a doc in fear of people utilizing a wiki for market gain, specifically a dominance chart. If you read further in my post, I state in regards to this sort of Google Doc:

In regards to that, I think a possible future benefit to consider though is that anyone can go and edit such an auction chart on a wiki so that it can be quickly updated with an auctioneer's new time versus having to send notecards to another party. Maybe you can register on the wiki and link to your chart as well if such a chart also exists on the wiki already?

Just one final note: Obviously things aren't going to be complete, or 100% accurate yet on the wiki. We just created it less than a week ago. If you would you like help make things more complete, sign up and help out. I created the wiki for the community to help each other.

I will not acknowledge takedown requests of information. Key things wont be on the wiki, such as recessive/dominance charts unless we can find a great way (or people volunteer to run it) utilize it. Obviously such things can make or break people, lots of money gets tossed around based on dominance charts. But other things, like who has auctions at what time, no, that should be community information, as it is fact. Every auctioneer should want their information easily accessible. A website that they can update themselves should seem like a great thing for them. A google doc only 1 person can edit on the other hand? That they have so send a notecard, in Second Life? to get it updated? When they could just take 5 seconds to update it themselves on the wiki? You tell me what seems more practical.

Notecards can be pretty inconvenient.
Is the person who collects these notecards constantly online to change times and stuff daily?
I think each auctioneer would love to fill out their times, themes and what ever is applicable at least I would.

I have no intention of participating in this wiki, tbh, and I will not be signing up for an account just to update auction listings. I see no reason why links can't be provided to the currently-maintained lists instead.

Particpating is ofcourse totally voluntary and if you don't want to that is absolutely something to respect.
There needs to be a convenient workflow though for those who want to participate I think you understand that as well.
If there is more than one auctionlist it starts to be too blurry already and inconvenient to work with certainly if it is not sure which list is most accurate and why.
I would not like to be assigned for that task to be frank.
So I suggest to just continue with that document and the person assigned to that as this works best for you.

The purpose of a Wiki is to allowed shared editing.

If someone wants to maintain an auction schedule ON the Wiki, that's fine. If they want to maintain it someplace else, that's fine, too. There are a lot of such resources. They come, they go, and their location changes, occasionally. Finding them can be hard. That's where a Wiki can come in. Perhaps the maintainer of the resource does not add/change/remove the links. But _someone_ can.

Certain resources MUST be kept from shared editing. Saga's Charts, for instance, would lose significant value if just anyone could change them. A lot of their value is that they're maintained and edited with integrity we can trust. That can not occur on a Wiki.

The question, as always, is what is the best tool for the job. There are some jobs a Wiki is good at, and some it's not.

Not to sound hostile, but I'm not wasting my time trying to convince people to sign up. Either do it or don't. That's your choice, but posting just to say you have no interest in signing up is a waste of everyone's time. The wiki is meant to be helpful to everyone. Go be against it on your own thread.

I'm all for suggestions to help improve it, but just posting that you want no part in it is just wrong, and frankly, very rude. I have no time for such things.

And again, because it's clearly difficult to grasp, if you would like something to be linked on the wiki, I know...this is a strange concept: Maybe you should post a link to it with your request.

As for discussions about what is currently maintained. Prove it. I have 2 groups saying they update a list of auctions. It's not my job to figure out who has the more reliable list, and I don't think it should be up to anyone to have to figure out. I think there should be a unified resource for people to go to find out any and all information they want. They shouldn't be forced to going to 80 different websites, or browse 100 different google docs.

Unfortunately this is exactly why i won't be participating. I DID give a suggestion, to use the wiki to link to the current chartS .. notice the plural.. that way people can go to your wiki if they want, see the links for the schedules, and click on the one they want.
