1-prim mode for 2D cats and boxes
Some time ago, I suggested replacing the current 2-prim implementation of cats and boxes in the 2D modes.

At the time, the rationale for maintaining the 2-prim implementation was that not all viewers supported Mesh.

This rationale no longer holds.

For some time now, all non-mesh viewers have been disallowed by Linden Labs.

A mesh version of the cats and boxes would actually only have a Land Impact of 0.5 prim-equivalents. For all Live cats and most boxes, this would mean an actual Land Impact of 1 prim-equivalent. But, it means, for Twin Boxes, which are a linkset, the Land Impact would remain only 1 prim-equivalent, since each part of the linkset only has an impact of 0.5.

At present, 4 image layers are needed to show the shadow, fur/ears, eyes, and whiskers. A fifth layer is needed for the back side so that the cat/box does not become invisible when viewed from the rear.

Mesh allows up to 8 images ('faces'). This leaves three additional faces, which are presently unused but should be placed and left invisible on the front.

These three additional front-facing image layers could then be used to show:

- status. For example, a thermometer, for sick Live cats; a golden heart to mark the cat as a Perma-Pet; interlocking male/female symbols for a partnered cat; or a red heart for cats which are, for all factors, ready to produce a box (possibly combined with interlocking male/female if also partnered).

- special awards. For example, a medallion for cats matching the Cat-Of-The-Month for the month when the box was produced;

- another, future, feature which is always nice to allow space for

RE: 1-prim mode for 2D cats and boxes
Hi, Tad that would be cool

the live cats do become 1-prim when changed to 2D

but the not-yet-birthed kitties aka kittyboxes are still 2 prims.

Maybe they are testing to see how it goes with the live cats -- assumption that there are less live cats become 2d prims than boxes being changed to 2d prims

I haven't had any problems changing live cats to the 1-prim 2d cats and I hope most people haven't. So please when you have the time, could you change the kittyboxes to 1 prim too when in 2d form. To me the experiement was a success for the live cats.
