This isnt KittyCatS! related, but I was private messaged by this person while in the KC Chat. There were a few of us in there at the time, so this is why I am sending this warning.

It's just a scam be careful of it.

Unless a family member or friend has accessed the SL acct using the deceaseds PC and SL login. Still good to be careful.

Yes; for example, Ivy Lane and I have access to each other's accounts.

While it's always good to be careful, it is certainly not outside the realm of possibility for a friend or family member to sign into the account of a deceased user to notify their friends. Without seeing the contents of that notecard, I wouldn't be able to make a judgement call as to whether it's some sort of scam, or a trusted friend actually notifying others of the person's passing.

Yes, ALWAYS BE CAREFUL AND CAUTIOUS. I did this when my RL sister passed away. She worked at a club and I logged on to her account and setup a memorial table for those not connected to her real life to do dedications. That way it went to her email and profile.
