Rainbow A little guidance needed :)
Hello everyone~

Fairly new to the KittyCats world, and I'm trying to find and read as much information as I can, so I understand the whole breeding a little bit better. When do I know I have a "rare" kitten born? I read the whole "Dominance" document, but I'm not sure I understand it 100%.
Any help would be so appreciated, and if anyone knows of a thread that could help me, please point it out.

Thank you so much!

RE: A little guidance needed :)
Hi Soleil,

Welcome to KittyCatS.

First, what is rare is not necessarily recessive or wanted by breeders / people who buy cats.
It might just be rare because people do not feel like breeding this fur or trait for X or Y reason.

I think the best way to learn about KittyCatS is to read & participate in the KittyCatS Addicts group,
members are very nice and don't mind answering questions / explaining stuff.

Going to auctions can be a good idea too, because most auctioneers know what they are doing
and give very good breeding advice and hints. (Like what can be or cannot be hiding what).

And last but not least : trying ! Making mistakes, getting good (or bad) surprises, getting über
excited or a tad disappointed, it's like iRL, you make a mistake once, but usually don't do it again. Smile

Anyway, good luck with your breeding and my IM is always open to answer questions !

RE: A little guidance needed :)
Dominance works like this ...

Line up the traits .. furs for instance ... over each, write down it's place. Let's use "1" to mean most dominant and only have 10 furs at the time, so "10" is most recessive. One cat has "1" and hides "6". The mate has "2" and hides "5". We flip a coin: Heads take the small number from the cat. Tails, take the large one. Flip again for the other cat. We happen, this time, to get Tails then Heads .. so the child has "6" and "2". "2" is smaller, so that's the fur you see. "6" is larger (more recessive" so that's the hidden you can't see.

An now you know precisely how KittyCatS Resident does it. The only other thing he needs to worry about is how to put a new fur between "4" and "5", or add one to the end of the list as "11" when the graphics team gives him a new one to put into play.

Saga's list is simply our attempt to figure out which number he assigned to each trait.
