I'm sure it's the single quote, but this happened when I tried to pair them:

[21:57:44] KittyCats - Sandy Beach: Type the name of your Cat's new partner in local chat Smile

[21:57:50] Liriel Garnet: Liri's Little Lady
[21:57:52] KittyCats - Sandy Beach: I sniffed around, but couldn't find Liri's Little Lady :/
[21:58:32] KittyCats - Liri's Little Lady: Type the name of your Cat's new partner in local chat Smile

[21:58:35] Liriel Garnet: Sandy Beach
[21:58:38] KittyCats - Liri's Little Lady: Sandy Beach has such nice fur ^_^ I already love my partner!

As you can see, it worked perfectly the other way around.

I tried to reproduce this problem with the exact same names, but they partnered for me...
Maybe you added a space at the back of the name?
(even though i can't find on in the copy of the chat text you pasted here...)

I just set a new partner for her again today -- with the same result:
[12:59:43] KittyCats - Pink He-Devil: I teleported to you! Are we gonna have some fun?
[12:59:57] KittyCats - Pink He-Devil: Type the name of your Cat's new partner in local chat Smile

I figured out what caused this -- the cat who wasn't recognized was attached to me. My error.
