Disable Negative Comments in Reputation section of Forum? - Vrem Vaniva - 09-03-2014 05:06 PM

Hi ...
I only learned today that people can write nasty things about others in the Reputation section of this forum. Didn't know that before! But yowwwwza , is this what KC wants?

This forum feature is potentially very very hurtful to people. In fact, it has already done damage.

There is no recourse for a person who has been slandered / libeled / defamed in this way. Comments stick there for years, and people can write whatever they choose, even if it is untrue, or an exaggeration, or a mere rumor. There is no tribunal to get the comments reviewed, checked for veracity, and expunged if the defamatory comments prove false. Instead, they just sit there being nasty comments, for years and years! eeks!

When i read some of these ... I felt ashamed of the people who wrote those damning words. How COULD they?

I am sure KittyCats does not want its forum used as a way for some kitty-sellers to trash the reputations of their competitors.

Would KC consider disabling the negative comments in the reputation section? (I mean, just the harsh words ... not sure how i feel about just a "negative vote" with no words). it might be as easy as un-ticking a checkbox in the forum settings .
We can "thank" people for their posts, but isn't it ridiculous to "anti-thank" someone ?

[Okay, now I'm in for it ... lol ... now somebody will check it out and test the theor, and write something bad about me (/me cringes, crumples, falls to the floor). ]

Well from my observations today, it looks like all Reputation comments postive/ negative have been removed.

Or maybe my browser is messing up Tongue

hi all Smile

we have removed the "reputation" feature as it really was never used much at all by the community, not even for "positive" ratings.

most people didn't ever read or use them, and damage can only be done if one believes what they read. Smile

we appreciate all of you and your desire to build a kind and friendly community. we trust as we all take this journey together we will learn from our mistakes, and take issues to people privately to try to work them out.

it can be a challenge that's for sure... i myself struggle with it and i'm OLD!!! Tongue

Well, older members used to rate quite often and it was kinda nice to be able to leave an expression of appreciation also it was a record of the good old days.

I don't really see the need to have removed it, 99.9% were nice comments and the very few exceptions weren't entirely undeserved either, those that i saw anyhow.
Only other abuse i saw was a few instances more recently of people massively up-rating, probably themselves by an alt but that was very obvious to the reader and harmless.

Anyhow, whats done is done, i feel it's a minus for the forum though.

I agree the positive rating part was very nice in fact and often used by older users indeed.
It is always nice to read a positive rating it is like a little surprise and a gesture of appreciation and to give a positive rating was also fun and had a nice memory and a little history on it's own: thinking back to certain things and memories of moments we collected on which we commented.
So yes this is a bit like kill a mosquito with a bazooka.
It was definately useful as well to support a good idea etc.
We could give a positive to a certain post one did or a general postive and if we made use of the first option a link was created to that post so I think it is a pitty it is taken away all together for quick reference and memories.
I agree though the negative and perhaps the neutral rating part can be taken away because if people do nasty things with that and I have seen that happening as well that is not sound I feel.
So in that aspect I agree with the OP and Deer who also made a post about this.

Thank you, Callie. You're right, "private" is the best place to resolve clashes like the ones I saw.
I am sorry that the good comments went away along with the bad, but you folks are still top-rated in my book Smile We can still comment on a particular post, without passing judgment on an entire person.

I'm not annoyed with any one person in particular (and nothing to do with the OP) but this affair as a whole has become disproportionate, unbalanced and limit puerile.

So, no hard feelings to anyone but I'm done with this forum for a while.

Hi allSmile

I believe there are other ways apart form a rating system to express appreciation for each other.

Additonally, it was about impossible to monitor all people's rating comments for our moderators. They were to much of a hidden place for easy reviewing.

This post was only a reminder for us to take care of it. The decision to do so was made longer ago, but not implemented.

Regards,
KittyCatS

Thank you so much for removing this feature from the forums. We can still add "thanks" to users via the "rose" and show our appreciation of their input in this way. I appreciate the fact that the management team of KittCatS do listen to their users. Thank you.

you know i have been thinking for quite awhile, we have "feedback" which is usually something wanted different, and very good to have...

and i think i will find a way to start a fun "praise and good news" thread Smile

we get enough "bad news" in life and often the great stories of kindness and encouragement don't get reported Smile

so... later!!! then we can all share things that ppl do that make our experience more fun! Smile
