Impossible?Russian-Black Fur from 2 Pandies? - Monty Walworth - 10-31-2013 08:07 PM

I have two pandies who produced a Black Russian Fur Mega kitten. My friend says it should be impossible to to get a Black Russian Fur kitten from two pandies since they are dominant to the Pandie or something. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Huh
He says I should post all 3's info in this too so here it is.

This is very possible as the father is the dominate kitten, and in the genetics, the pandies are recessive. So although the pandies together will also produce the pandies, now and than the grandparents will reappear. Anything in the pedigree of a kitten may appear at any time, its becomes less likely as they all further down the family tree of the kitten

The Pandi Ebony and Ivory fur is extremely dominant, well above Black Russian, in fact dominant to Red and White Tabby. It is very easy to believe that a Black Russian fur could hide in a Pandi Ebony and Ivory kitty.

Should check the dominance chart at google.com

You will find the pandi ebony and ivory in the right hand side of the chart as its position is not precise yet, but it is well above rw tabby. Plenty of room to hide black russian.

Thanks,

I have gotten plenty of Russian blacks from pandies before.

Ohhhhh. All this time I thought pandie was super recessive and now I realize I've been looking at the brown and white pandie fur. Derp.

Pandie Ebony and Ivory is a very dominant fur, based on Saga's dominance order for the fur, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak_Wqb33nVpndHhxT3RqQ1dtNV9WdDMtZUtaOGx0Q3c&usp=drive_web#gid=0. Have you checked the grandparents of this kitty from your pedigree site? What fur does the grandparents have? If you don't see a Russian Black and from either grandparents, then it is somewhere in the line (above the grandparents) that there is a Russian Black. Russian black will be the hidden fur for this line. It is just hard to say which side because we can only see 2nd generation from our Pedigree.

Another thing you can do and I do this all the time, lol, when you check your pedigree and you see who owns those kitties, check their store if they have one. Check what kind of kitties they have so you can gauge and anticipate what kitties you will have based on their cattery. Hope this helps.
