RE: RFL special bid war - Tad Carlucci - 12-18-2012 10:59 PM

I can see why the RFL folk would like their auction to offer unique things.

At the same time, I can certainly see how unique special traits, only available from the RFL auction would create a very un-level playing field.

I think the KittyCatS people did well to simply refuse to offer special RFL-only traits.

If, however, they should choose to do so, in the future, my suggestion would be to wait an appropriately brief period then offer those same special collection starters for purchase. Since they are RFL starters, it would seem reasonable that the price could be moderately higher, and a portion of the purchase price could be forwarded to the RFL fund.

Usually when something in sold in benefit of RFL, 100% of the money earned goes to RFL.

I think LE's are expensive enough & would not gain being even more, be it for RFL or not, a lot of
people can hardly ever gather nearly 800L for a cat.

Edit : Congrats Kay & the other winner who actually DID win something unique, even if it's not in the hidden traits but in the external aspect of the cats.
Kay, I can't wait to see what color you choose for your cat, I am sure it will be gorgeous.

Reality check. Yes I've been reading how to win friends and influence ppl again.
Shame on those of you who are only thinking of the money someone can make off traits or have an edge.
This is a charity to help find cures for cancer, not who has more money, or gets the best new trait. Or how to make it more fare.
I took care of my own mother while she died of melanoma. Everyone has a story I'm sure of this since we've all been touched by this awful disease in one way or another.

And Kay! Don't you dare feel like you have to defend yourself! You work hard for every penny you get. And I for one ty for contributing to a worthy cause to try and help others. And congrats on winning! I'm sure you will put together some stunning kitties and I for one hope they are loaded with amazing traits. Heart

By the way Kay, Where did you find those big bucks? All mine are the same size as the rest. Tongue

I will get off my soap box now. And congrats and Thank You to the winners of the rfl kitties. May your holidays be filled with love and joy. Heart

And what you and the other winner did means more to me than anyone can know. Heart

And I forgot to add that KC sells rfl kitties to all of us and that money goes to charity.

Yes they made the beautiful steampunks and the awesome statues all proceeds 100% for charity.
I think KC did more than their part for charity this year!
I want to say something else as well ...
If the exact same pairs were auctioned, not for charity but just because ..., I would never ever join in the auction as I did.
It is not even about the cats I have to admit I'm very happy with my cats and Callie promised me to work on them after Christmas.
But we talk about charity here.
I for one will give my computer an extra year or two than I planned and will have a humble Christmas were the thought counts over the amounts spend on the gifties.
Because I really really liked to join in for this charity.

Actually, my point in the other thread was to thank KC for not unbalancing our market. The auctioneer repeatedly was telling how the unique trait would allow the winner to control the market for the other breedables, and they were right.

This wasn't the case with the KC breedables, which makes the amount spent by those who won the KittyCatS RFLs true charity, as opposed to an investment as it would be with the other breedables. My intentions was never to imply it was about anything *other* than supporting the RFL charity for those who won, but instead to thank both KC and those who won for their contributions.

Gosh, I have to admit I thought that was so annoying!
They went on and on and on and on about these market opportunities.
I think if the KC's would have given half the attention as these breedables received we might have end up with an even higher bid.
I think it is almost unethical to promote market opportunities that way in relation to charity.
Our KittyCatS team simply rules I think and I'm proud of them!

I was so glad that they didn't add in special traits just for these because this is about CHARITY not how much money you will be able to make by inventing in them.

RE: RFL special bid war - Devilness Chant - 12-19-2012 03:52 PM

That is an awful shallow point to emphasize on. It's about the ppl it helps, not about the market.
I do commend Kc for not being pressured into doing something they weren't comfortable with.
But a few rare traits wouldn't have toppled our market. It's not like Kay would have ruthlessly taken over the grid. lol Our market always fluctuates like the wind with the coming and going of starters and paydays.
