I have to be honest here and admit I was VERY sad when I talked to KittyCatS about being able to see my new Foxie. Best I can compare it to is being handed what you are told is an awesome birthday gift and at the same time told you can't open it yet, and you can only try to open it once a week and if you're unlucky may never open it. Now I know I have a starter that hides the new Foxie fur and a baby that "shows" it under a costume, but I gotta tell ya..some of my V-day and Xmas kitties threw their hidden furs ONCE only..no matter what I did or how many babies I opened/bred back etc. So I am filled with trepidation about this situation. I HOPE I can do well breeding them out and I have awesome breeders living all around me so plenty of help if needed but I keep thinking of Inanna ( a Xmas kitty ) that I ended up passing to Draco cuz she would not show her hidden for love or money and it took him til she was over 100 days old before she finally showed it. ( I think it was Oci Lav after all that )
It made ME feel bad when folks IM'd me asking for a pic and I couldn't share one. I even asked KittyCatS if the costume could be removed and they said not with the special offspring kitties. So I am stuck. Now I like the special offspring, it's neat..it's a nice little extra for buying collection cats. But I LOVE new furs and traits as well. And I do think to be lucky enough to get something new then not be able to see what you got is a bit sadistic.
I got the Foxie from my Til Death Do Us Part pair..I opted to separate them this week and am breeding wtih nicely traited lynx's and hoping for the best. At this point though, I feel it should be up to the discoverer if a pic is posted to web or sent out in notices or not. If I have to wait to see my own kitty..then I want to choose when, where and how to share the "discovery of the LOOK" if and when it happens, unless someone else "discovers the look" in the meantime, then they can decide.
I think though that being given special offspring when certain starters are bred together, then not being able to see new traits right away if found feels kinda like punishment. My usual method with starters is to 1) breed with another starter 2) breed with recessive fur/eye 3) breed with moderate fur/eye if step 2 gave me squat..lather, rinse, repeat as needed. So this kindof interferes with that plan since I would have to exclude certain pairings if I don't want to risk new traits under costume again.
Maybe a good workaround for this would be to have the pedigree image not be in costume. That way..we could peek under and relax..or give option to revert the cat to non-costume via ticket. I don't see how those options could hurt and really don't grasp the motivation behind the whole double discovery thing.
Another option that may take a bit of work but would be optimal for your customers I think is to have the costume considered a kind of clothing and allow it to be removed AND replaced via the menu. That way, whoever had the cat would take their pick of the look they wanted.
As it is now, it really sucks the joy outta finding something new.
