Sigh, most of my cats are in the cattery, and my rezzed cats probably cannot finish the food I own by Dec 31 (I had just restocked RIGHT before the update was described.) Is there ANY way that KC could permit exchanges?

I think that if we try to get rid of as much food as we can, come late december, they will have figured out a solution for the remainder of the food then that'll make the majority of us happy. It's like 3 months away or something, so there's a lot of time to try and get as much food as possible used up. I don't think we should panic about it just yet. Maybe early december we can start panicking about it

I too bought a lot of kibble shortly before the update, and since I'm also downsizing considerably, there is no way that my own cats can eat all that food before new year's eve.
What I intend to do, is to calculate how much kibble and milk I need, and donate the rest to the Saga Charts breeding project space.

All of us use and depend on the Saga charts, which is a project run by volunteers who pay all costs with their own RL money. The breeding space has been up since this summer, and many volunteers have bred hundreds of kitties to place traits in the charts. These kitties would in most cases not have been bred at all if it wasn't for the placement project.

I spent the equivalent of 10 USD on Kibble, and will use at least half of it. The rest, will go to the Saga project, and feed up to ten breeding cats for one month each.

What will I lose? The cost of half a cup of coffee at my local café, one slice of pizza, or one Big Mac. The value I get in return is WAY beyond that cost.

I hope other breeders who have lots of kibble left will do the same, for our common good.

so even Cattery food is going to expire?

Only consumables bought before the 1.56 update release will expire by the end of 2016.
These are: Food, Starter Food, Milk, Portable Food, Vitamins, Love Drops & Perma-Pet bottles.

Cattery Milk & Cattery food does not expire.

There will be an exchange period in effect for consumables which are not used. This period will begin in December. We will give more details before it starts.

The updated food & vitamins have several new automated security tracking measures in place. This is the main reason why the old consumables will expire.

Thanks for the response, KittyCatS!, but this will still represent HUNDREDS if not thousands of USD taken from me, because there is no way I can even come close to consuming this level of food, portable food, and vitamins before the deadline. This is especially problematic since you guys chose to make so many of these no transfer. This news completely ruined what was going to be an amazing update for me. This is akin to when SL replaced their old browser with their new one many years ago for me. I have never since enjoyed their product on the same level and I avoid using it whenever possible.

So disappointing.

I think you missed this sentence in the response.

How is this trade in going to happen when most consumables are no transfer?
