Should I unpartner cats before sending one of them to the place in the clouds?

You don't need to. If you are keeping the other partner, it will automatically unpartner after the time runs out and it can't "find" its partner. But if you are impatient, you can get a breakup bottle from the mainstore, too. Either way, its ok to send a partnered kitty to the menagerie.
